AYUB . / I
By Guy Chambless
“TO THOSE WHO WOULD GIVE ADVICE, THE BEST ADVICE
I KNOW IS: ‘IF YOU CAN’T BE KIND, BE QUIET’ ...”
This advice by M. D'Alroy is directed, it would appear, at the
ill-considered and often vicious remarks which some people like
to pass off as the proud result of a frank and direct approach.
Frankness, properly exploited, is an asset which although un
kind under certain circumstances, nevertheless rates a measure
of respect. However, unkind observations wantonly bandied a
bout to no advantage other than the perverted satisfaction some
people seem to gain from this action, are best left unsaid.
This isn’t to say that there aren’t many unkind things said,
and justifiably so, in this rather hectic world of ours, but the
folly is in resorting to the catty and gossipy unkindnesses which
are usually uncalled for and sometimes undeserved. Actually,
to be kind at all times and in all situations, is something of an
impossibility which only a very insincere individual could passa
bly handle. For, there are .many instances where an action or
an incident, by its very nature, merits an acceptance which
could not honestly be kindly offered.
