Through Tuesday of this week
238 Pierce county cotton farmers
had placed 1295.2 acres in the
1958 Acreage Reserve Program
Waycross, Ga.
for a total of $80,494.84, averag
ing $338.21 per farm.
Lyman Walker Pierce ASC of
fice manager, stated that 78 other
farmers have been put on the
waiting list for participation in
the soil bank program when and
if more funds are available to
Pierce county.
These farmers have indicated a
desire to place approximately
280 acres of cotton land for a
total payment of approximately
$1536.00.
Signing up for the Acreage Re
serve Program began on January
13, and Pierce county cotton
farmers moved fast to sign up

Mr. Walker said that farmers
who desire can still sign up on
the waiting list until March 7.
The 1957 cotton program had
230 farmers signed up for a to
tal of $58,376.44 on 1070.8 acres,
an average of $253.81 per farm.
Thus far 20 tobacco farmers
have signed up for funds avail
able on the 1958 Acreage Reserve
Program, Mr. Walker said. These
agreements cover 33.44 acres for
a total of $9,033.40. Signing up
will also continue until March 7.
In 1957, 29 Pierce county to
bacco farmers placed tobacco
land in the soil bank, covering
47.14 acres for a total payment
of $12,136.10.
