“We Made a Wise Choice”
Says Dr.C.O. Templeton, Valdosta
■» 111 •* *V I■l J. G I ■■
"When we decided to build a new home and include a heating system and air condition
ing, we installed a GE Weathertron. The past severe winter proved we made a wise
choice. During the coldest days, we had plenty of heat. We particularly like the absence
of dirt and dust in the air. Our drapes, carpets and upholstery stay clean and fresh much
longer. Our Weathertron is truly automatic. We jut set the thermostat for the tem
perature we want; the Weathertron does the rest —heats when the weather’s cold, cools
when it’s hot —with no attention from us.”
COOL COMFORT ON HOT DAYS In hot, humid
weather, the GE Weathertron actually pumps heat
and moiature out of indoor air —keeps your ho me
cool and comfortable without drafts — gives you all
the benefits of an air conditioner plus many more.
HEATS WITHOUT FLAME In cold weather, the
GE Weathertron actually pumps heat in from outdoor
air —even in sub-freezing temperatures. You en^oy
fresh, cozy warmth that is clean, odorless and
flameless.
Although we do not sell G-E Weathertrons, we welcome t*e opportunity tn tell Georgians of this new development in electrical living.

Vandiver Still Miles Ahead
Baptist preacher William T. Bodenhamer has
tossed his hat into the political ring giving Georgia a race
for governor.
Bodenhamer is well known in this section of Georgia.
The Tift County representative was formerly associated
with the YMCA as a field worker and often visited Way
cross.
His entry in the gubernatorial derby comes as no
surprise because it had been obvious for some time that
he had capital fever and would need little persuasion to
take the plunge.
While Bodenhamer’s decision means that there will
be some stirring on the hustings this summer (and that is
always a healthy political situation), Lt. Gov. Ernest Van
diver will, in our opinion, remain the choice of most Geor
gians.
There now appears little prospect that the 1958 cam
paign will be on any higher plain than the slugging match
es of the past.
Bodenhamer has disappointed many of his friends
since he caught political fever by mixing rabble-rousing
tactics with assorted panaceas for social ills.
Segregation, as usual, will be the hottest topic on the
campaign agenda. Yet this will not be the real issue since
Vandiver is as strong as Bodenhamer or anyone else for
the preservation of Southern traditions.
Some issues that Georgians would like to hear dis
cussed are economy in government, plans for industrial
development and the outlook for highway construction,
including state participation in the gigantic federal pro
gram.
The lines have now been drawn. Georgians can ex
pect some of the old-time hoopla this summer with power
ful political forces pulling the strings from behind the
scenes.
At this point it still looks like Vandiver is miles a
head.
Forests occupy 63.8 per cent of
Georgia’s land area.
Georgia produces about one
fifth of the South’s pulpwood.
Georgia produces more than
half the world’s supply of naval
stores.
Georgia ranks first in the South
and fourth in the nation in lum
ber production.
Forest industries in Georgia
employ 57,000 workers.
Georgia has more privately
owned forest land than any other
state.
Georgia leads the nation in
annual production of tree seed
lings for planting.
Georgia leads the nation in the
number of acres of privately
owned land planted to trees.
