Last year the men and women on our U. S. and Canadian payrolls earned
$29,705,169 in wages, overtime, paid vacations and holidays . . . averaging over
$4,000,000 for each of our seven mill communities. • We also paid out $2,827,079
for far-reaching employee benefits like health-accident insurance and retirement
funds. Incidentally, hourly workers account for 70% of our payrolls. • Wouldn’t
you agree that Rayonier payrolls make a contribution to your community?

Head-on
Tuesday
The condition of Mrs. Aaron Thomas remained critical
Wednesday as a result of an auto collision at Owen Tues
day afternoon in which her son, Douglas, and three out
of-state negroes were also injured.
Charges of failing to grant
right-of-way was placed against
Gassie Mae Newsome, Hartford,
Conn., driver of the 1956 Chevro
let, which hit the Thomas car
car head-on after failing to make
a stop.
The accident occured about 3:45
p. m., according to the State pa
trol report.
Investigation showed that a car
driven by James W. Sauls, Route
1, Blackshear, had made a stop
and was waiting for the Thomas
vehicle to pass before making a
left turn into the Pierce County
Farm road just east of Owen. The
Newsome car failed to stop but
went around the Sauls car, hitting
the Thomas vehicle head-on.
The report showed that Douglas
Thomas, driving a 1957 Ford west
on U. S. highway 82 between Pat
terson and Blackshear, tried to
leave the pavement in an effort
