Berrien County, center of the bright leaf tobacco belt and
considered among the most profitable farming sections of the
South, was named for John M. Berrien, one of the nation’s
most colorful personalities. Berrien, a lawyer, Solicitor General
of the Eastern Circuit, Colonel during the Revolutionary War,
U. S. Senator, and U. S. Attorney General, was known as the
"American Cicero.” Berrien County, which recently cele
brated its centennial, produces corn, cotton, tobacco, lumber,
and turpentine. Nashville is the county seat. One of the last
real battles with the Indians was fought in this area in 1836.
In thriving Berrien County, and throughout Georgia, the
United States Brewers Foundation works constantly to assure
the sale of beer and ale under pleasant, orderly conditions.
Believing that strict law enforcement serves the best interest
of the people of Georgia, the Foundation stresses close cooper
ation with the Armed Forces, law enforcement and governing
officials in its continuing "self-regulation” program.
