Innoculation of
Dogs Would Solve
Problem of Rabies
ATLANTA — Rabies will not
be a problem in any Georgia
county if citizens will see to it
that the dog population is vacc
inated against rabies annually,
according to the Georgia Veter
inary Medical Association.
Stray dogs particularly must
be controlled in the more populat
ed areas if rabies is to be prevent
ed and the vaccination program
supported.
According to the GVMA a ra
bies outbreak generally occurs
when dog owners in an area fail
to accept their responsibility of
their dogs vaccinated. Such a fail
ure of responsibility endangers
ownership and choose not to have
pets as well as the human popu
lation in the community.
The GVMA urges everyone to
see to it that his dog and his
neighbor’s dog is vaccinated a
gainst rabies each year. The
Association points out that al
though rabies cannot be cured,
it can be prevented - - - if people
care enough.
Serious Illness
Is Caused from
Yellow Fly Bite
Mrs. Riley Lee of the Walker
ville community was bitten last
Friday morning by a yellow fly
at her home, resulting in serious
complications.
Mrs. Lee was rushed to Dr.
Leonard C. Durrence and was
placed in the Pierce County Hos
pital where she remained until
Saturday morning.
The bite resulted in swelling
and difficulty in breathing and it
is reported that Mrs. Lee was in
serious condition for some time.
The fly appeared to be a com
mon yellow fly but had a purple
colored head, it was reported.
Mrs. Lee said she had been bit
ten many times before by yellow
flies, but never previously with
such serious complications.
The Georgia Crop Improvement
Association field inspected and
approved for certification 11,180
acres of peanuts in 1959.

"If it hadn't been for Rural Electrification I
we, in the country, might still be without
electricity. As it is, we can have all the 0
conveniences of city living . . . and, al
though we're out in the country, we too
can have all the electricity we need, at a
rate we can afford to pay!"
This is true in most rural communities
today because of the founders of the
Rural Electric Systems — the folks who
brought electricity to the farms . ..
