Beating the 'Dull Season'
An executive of a large department store recently
had something to say about how retailers can move goods,
particular during so-called "dull seasons.” He put it in a
jingle :
"Early to bed ;
“Early to rise;
“Work like h ;
“And advertise.”
Then he dealt with newspapers as an advertising me
dium : “Newspaper circulation stays up all year ‘round.
There is no appreciable change in the number of papers
distributed, and this means that our advertising will get
full readership at all times during the year.”
No matter what the season — and in spite of the
emergence of newer forms of advertising media— news
papers remain aprime vehicle for interesting people in
goods and services and persuading them to buy. You can't
beat the written word.
