Roy Todd on
All-Star B'
Grid Team
Roy Todd, outstanding guard
on the 1959 Patterson High foot
ball team, has been named to the
Class B. All-State football team
by The Atlanta Journal and Con
stitution. The announcement was
made in the Sunday, Dec. 20,
issue.
Todd, a five-foot-nine, 160-
pound senior, was one of 22 play
ers given a place of honor in
the annual statewide first team
selection.
Lucius Yeomans, a junior full
back on the Patterson team, re
ceived honorable mention for
having been one of the main
sparks in the Patterson attacks
during the 1959 season.
The Atlanta newspapers Label
ed Todd “quick, aggressive.”
The two words summarize the
performances which young Todd
gave during an impressive sea
son which saw Jack Perry’s
Eagles win five, lose two, and tie
three games.
Beginning with the season’s
first game, Todd was outstanding
defensively and continued to so
perform. Patterson’s ten oppo
nents managed to score a total
of only 69 points while the
Eagles accumulated a total of
129 points.
Except for Patterson’s upset
ting 44-0 loss to Quitman, the
Eagles held the other nine op
ponents to a total of 25 points.
Five of these teams failed to
score.
Coach Jack Perry, his assistant,
Stanley Tuten, and the Patterson
Eagles are to be commended for
having two young men receive
places of honor in Class B foot
ball.
Earl Williams, student at Mars
Hill College, Mars Hill, N. C.,
and Miss Betty Williams, who
teaches in Miami, arrived home
Saturday to spend the holidays
with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Williams.
