Cheeky bringing the amount of
the Georgia Power Company’s
property tax payments to $6,121,-
734 are being presented this
week to municipal and county
government officials, according
to B. F. David, Local Manager at
Blackshear.
Mr. David reported the amount
compares with a total of $5,683,-
400 paid by the company for its
1959 property taxes.
Os this sum, $3,047,147 goes into
general county funds, $2,056,598
to school districts, $970,658 to
cities and towns, and $47,335 to
Georgia and adjoining states.
Payments of $120.19 went to
the City of Nahunta, $69.17 to
the City of Hoboken and $3,921.-
99 to Brantley county. Total pay
ments for the Valdosta division
of the company amounted to'
$273,830.52.
Earlier in the year, municipal
partnership tax payments total
ing $2,292,797 were paid by the
company to the 392 cities, towns
and communities in which the
firm’s partenership franchise a
greement was in effect. Under
this agreement, the company
pays each municipality in which
it operates three per cent of its
gross revenue from the sale of
electricity for rsidential and com
mercial use. These municipal
partnership tax payments were
in addition to property tax pey
ments.
The Georgia Power Company
official pointed out that more
than 20 per cent of the company’s
total revenue goes to pay taxes,
including federal and state in
come taxes, municipal partner
ship taxes, and others.
