Hunting Season
Information Given
By Chief Hatchett
Information concerning the
1961-62 hunting season has been
given this newspaper by Mallory
Hatchett, chief ranger of the
Waycross district.
Mr. Hatchett wrote to the En
terprise as follows:
Dear Sir
The lawful season for shooting
marsh hens shall be September
20-November 28. 1961. Daily bag
limit is 15 daily, possession limit
is 30. Shooting hours from sun
rise to sunset.
It is illegal to shoot from a
motorboat (inboard or outboard)
any time the motor is running
and the boat is under power.
In the case of marsh hens a
Now-M-8 power
is standard!
Now you can buy light and medium-duty
International TYucks —get V-8 engines as
standard equipment
These are the truck-designed V-B’s
you’ve probably heard about.
They give you remarkable gas economy along

person may shoot from a boat
with motor attached when the
source of power has been shut off,
the forward progress due to auto
motive power has ceased and the
boat is immobile or being propel
led by paddle, oars or pole.
In shooting ducks or geese a
motorboat may be used as a
shooting site if it is beached,
resting at anchor or tied to a
hunting blind or fixed object,
otherwise the .motor must be de
tached and lying in the boat.

Fertility
Soil
Meeting Was
Held Monday
The Brantley County Soil Fer
tility Kick-Off Meeting was held
Monday night, Sept. 18, at the
Red Pig Drive-In Restaurant in
Nahunta
S
ome one hundred people from
various parts of Brantley County
heard how farm income can be
substantially increased through
participation in the Soil Fertility
Program in the County.
Mr. Jim Bergeaux, Soil Spec
ialist of the Georgia Agricultural
Extension Service showed a series
of slides, and gave a lecture on
the County’s present production,
and how if can be increased
through Soil Fertility.
Mr. Frank Boyd, Agronomist
gave a very interesting lecture on
the importance of Soil Testing.
Boyd compared Soil Testing
with a Doctor’s diagnosis of ail
ments among people, whereby
the existing condition is deter-
mined and specific treatment is
prescribed to correct the ailment.
So by having the soil tested
the farmers find out the P. H.
and the available plant nutrients
contained in the soil, and recom
mendations are .made as to the
amount of lime and fertilizer
needed to bring the soil up to its
needed level for the most pro
fitable production of crops and
pastures.
