Georgia Power Company Pays
Millions in Property Taxes
Checks bringing the amount of
the Georgia Power Company’s
1961 property tax payments to $6,-
718,000 are being presented this
week to municipal and county
government officials, according to
B. F. David, local manager at
Blackshear.
Mr. David reported that the a
mount compares with a total of
$6,122,900 paid by the company
for its 1960 property taxes.
Os this sum, $3,203,192 goes in
to general funds, $2,339,142 to
school districts, $1,049,533 to
cities and towns, and $126,859 to
Georgia and adjoining states.
Payments of $121.42 went to
the City of Nahunta, $70.43 to
the City of Hoboken and $4,392.-
91 to Brantley County. Total
payments for the Valdosta divi
sion of the company amounted to
$426,881.80.
Earlier in the year, municipal
partnership tax payments total
ing $2,384,748 were paid by the
company to the 394 cities, towns
and communities in which the
firm’s partnership franchise a
greement was in effect. Under
this agreement, the company pays
each municipality in which it op
erates three per cent of its gross
revenue from the sale of elec
tricity for residential and com
mercial use. These municipal
partnership tax payments were in
addition to property tax pay
ments.
The Georgia Power Company
official pointed out that .more
than 18 per cent of the com
pany’s total revenue goes to pay
taxes, including federal and state
income taxes, municipal partner
ship taxes, and others.
COOKING EGGS
Remove eggs from the refri
gerator about one-half hour be
fore cooking so that shells will
not crack when cooking in the
shell. This will also allow eggs
to increase in volume when they
are beaten, suggest Extension nu
tritionists.
