Look how clean
electric heating
is in the home
IF DUST is a problem in your home, you should
know about electric house heating.
In a word, it’s clean.
From home after home where electric heat
ing has been tried, you hear enthusiastic and
repeated comments like these:
“Dusting isn’t nearly the nuisance it used
to be.”
“There aren’t any cold drafts 01 hot blasts.
“We’ve never felt so completely comfortable.”
More than providing you with comfort and
convenience, electric heating has the practical
advantage of enhancing the value of your home.
Modern today, it will be just as modern in the
years ahead.
If you’re planning to build, buy or modernize,
give careful thought to electric house heating.
For full information and assistance on how you
can heat your home better electrically, call or
go by your electrical contractor's or the Georgia
Power Company.

Turkey Tests Show
Hens, Toms Need
Different Rations
Feeding separate and different
rations to hens and toms may
well benefit turkey growers. This
is indicated by results of turkey
feeding trials conducted at the
University of Georgia’s College
Experiment Station at Athens by
Research Poultryman H. L. Ful
ler and Extension Poultryman J.
H. Massey.
Pens of turkeys in confinement
and other pens on range were fed
a protein-vitamin-mineral con
centrate and whole grains in
three different ways: (1) free
choice, (2) limited-choice, and
(3) as all-mash.
During these trials hens on all
treatments gained about the same
amount. Since hens attain mature
weights at an earlier age than
toms, these poultrymen believe
that it should be practical to re
duce the protein and increase the
energy in rations fed the hens
much earlier than in rations fed
toms.
Compared to other methods,
free-choice feeding produced sig
nificantly greater weight gains a
mong all tom turkeys in the
trial and among the hens grown
indoors. Among the hens on
range, the limited-choice and all
mash fed groups made the great
er gains.
For both hens and toms, feed
efficiently was greatest in the
all-mash fed groups and poorest
in the free-choice groups, both in
confinement and on range.
The uniformity of final body
weight of birds within groups, a
desirable quality in market tur
keys, was better in the limited
choice and all-mash fed groups
for both hens and toms.
Weight gains by both toms and
hens were greater on range than
in confinement. This may have
been due to crowded conditions in
the indoor pens, although seven
and a half square feet of floor
space was provided each bird.
Is Critical Time
In Feeding Steers
Starting steers on the feedlot
ration is one of the most critical
steps in profitably finishing cat
tle for market, according to Ex
tension animal husbandmen at
the University of Georgia College
of Agriculture.
The first two weeks are the
critical period. If calves are fed
too heavily during this period,
they are likely to founder and
cause a loss for the feedlot op
erator, points out Dr. O. G. Dan
iel, head of the Extension animal
husbandry department.
