THE RECORD IS clear that
these so-called “uncommitted*
countries who portray them
selves as the chief exponents
of all that is good and virtuous
line up with the Communist
bloc when the chips are down.
There has never been a time in
the history of the United Na
tions when they have acted to
challenge or voted to condemn
a policy of a Communist nation.
A recent editorial cartoon de
picted a cross-eyed figure repre
senting these nations teetering
on the edge of the “Soviet Sau
sage Machine” and waving a
sign reading, “Give Me Foreign
Aid Or I’ll Jump!” The caption
was, “Wonder What He’d Do If
We Said—‘Go Ahead’?” Unless
I have badly misjudged the
mood of the American people,
the overwhelming majority feel
that the Tito’s, Nehru’s and
Nkrumah’s of the world should
be given that choice and given
it now.
