Death May Lurk
In Disorganized
Medicine Chest
Recently released data show
that 90% of all “poisoning acci
dents" involve children under
five years of age. Children in
this age group are old enough
to open cabinets and unscrew bot
tle caps, but they are not old
enough to know that the contents
may be harmful.
Danger and even death can
lurk in a littered, disorganized,
Fibber McGee type medicine
chest. Because home medicine
chests by their nature harbor a
large number of potentially dan
gerous items, proper storage and
labeling of drugs is essential,
with periodic cleanups schedul
ed to eliminate special hazards.
A physician or pharmacist can
advise how long specific prepara
tions may be safely kept. Destroy
by flushing down the drain any
prescriptions for which the need
is past or which has passed the
stated expiration date; and med
icine which shows such signs of
possibly dangerous deterioration
as change of color, cloudiness,
caking or residue in the bottom;
any salve or ointment which has
dried out in a jar or is in a cor
roded tube; any preparation
without a label — better to waste
than taste a possible toxic sub
stance.
Remember, when you do dis
card dangerous drugs, never
throw them where they will be
a temptation to children, your
own or others.
Contact your neighborhood
pharmacy for further informa
tion on poison prevention, or
your Poison Control Center.
Only emergency service is given
in reply to inquiries from the
general public, with the sugges
tion that a physician be called.

Selecting Hybrid
Is Important Step
In Corn Program
Selecting an adapted hybrid is
one of the most important steps
a farmer can take toward the
Master Com Program goal of 60
bushels of com per acre, County
Agent, George Loyd, said this
week.
“Planting hybrid corn seed is
a fairly new practice in Georgia,”
the county agent asserted, “but
it is one that has certainly caught
on rapidly with the majority of
farmers.” He pointed out that to
day more than 80 percent of the
corn land in Georgia is planted
to hybrids compared to less than
10 percent in 1945.
The county agent went on to
say that plant breeders believe
that development of hybrid seed
is the outstanding development
in science during the 20th cen
tury. This opinion is based on the
fact that in developing a hybrid
the plant breeded is able to breed
for high yields, disease resis
tance and other factors which
make possible more profitable
crops.

The 4 that goes around acting like a V-B...Tempest!
Used to be that people swore by V-B's and V-B’s atone. And then along came Tempest s
spunky 4 to steal their thunder. The hottest version* of this 4 (166 hp) puts out more horse
power than any other production 4 in the world. More torque, too. And every version, standard
110 hp on up, is smooth and silent and effortless. About the only thing Tempest doesn t
share with the big boys is its appetite for gasoline and spare parts. Try a drive in a Tempest
4 soon, hear? You might as well save while you’re swinging! Pontiac Tempest
