PEANUTS AND EGGS
MARCH PLENTIFULS
Several food items that have spe
cial significance to southeastern far
mers are on the U. S. Department
of Agriculture’s March list of plen
tiful foods.
USDA’s Agricultural Marketing
Service says peanuts, peanut pro
ducts, eggs, rice, and broiler-fryers
will be available in generous sup
ply during March.
Peanuts and peanut products will
be especially plentiful in southeast
ern states. USDA says the 1963 pea
nut crop totaled nearly 2 billion
pounds, against 1.8 billion in 1962.
The increase, USDA reports, was
due entirely to record yields in the
Southeast where growers contributed
1.6 billion pounds of the 1963 crop.
USDA says January egg production
totaled 5.3 billion eggs, an increase
of 3 percent over January 1962. In
the Southeast, production topped 1.2
billion eggs in January, or about
130 million more than a year ear
lier.
Broiler-fryers will be marketed in
plentiful supply during March, the
Agricultural Marketing Service re
ports. Farm marketings are expect
ed to top those of March 1963 by
at least 5 percent
The record large 1963 crop of
rough rice is estimated by USDA
at more than 70 million hundred
weight.
Other foods which the Agricultur
al Marketing Service says will be
plentiful in March are beef, pota
toes, canned corn, and apples.

For Sheriff
TO THE CITIZENS
OF BRANTLEY COUNTY:
This is to announce that I am a
candidate for sheriff of Brantley
County, subject to the county Demo
cratic primary election to be held
March 11.
I make this announcement after
carefully considering the following:
1. The pension our present sheriff
could retire on at the end of his
present term.
2. The good things he has done
while in office.
3. The things he has failed to
do while in office.
4. My firm belief that the ma
jority of our citizens are ready for
a change in the sheriff’s office.
If I am elected as your sheriff,
I will carry out the following pro
gram:
1. I will strive to prevent alco
holic beverages being available to
our school children.
2. I will prevent the immoral, un
desirable and unlawful establish
ments in our county.
3. I will carry out the duties of
the office to the best of my ability.
I wish to state that I am run
ning my own race and have not
aligned myself with any other can
didates.
If I fail to see some of you be

your vote and influence. I hope you
will consider this as my request
for your support.

Questions and
Answers on
Social Security
Q. My husband works for a man
who cuts and sells pulpwood to the
paper company under contract. My
husband drives a pulpwood truck and
delivers to the paper company wood
yard. The man he works for, not the
paper company, pays him. Is my
husband supposed to send in his own
social security?
A. No. The man he works for is
supposed to deduct social security
from your husband’s pay, match it,
and send it in with a report every
three months.
Q. My brother and two others cut
pulpwood for a man who sells it to
the paper company. Their boss says
that since there are only three of
them the work isn't covered by social
security. He says that he has to have
four workers to come under social
security. Is that right?
A. No. If he had only one worker
he’d be covered by social security.
All commercial work is covered by
social security no matter how’ many
workers, how much they’re paid, or
how long they work.
Q. I own two pulpwood trucks and
cut and haul pulpwood under con
tract to the paper company. I have
five men working for me. I send in
their secial security every three
months. My wife says I ought to send
it in on myself too. Can I do that?
A. Yes, but not every three
months. You pay your social security
once a year when you send in your
income tax return. You get social
security credit for your business
profit up to S4BOO. If your profit is
less than S4OO you can’t get any so
cial security credit for yourself from
your business.
Q. I don’t believe the man I’m
wwking for is turning in social se
curity on my work. How can I find
out?
A. You can get a copy of your
social security record from our
head office. I’m sending you a spec
ial post card to use. It’s free and
I’ll send one to anybody who wants
one. It’s called a “7004 card.” All
you do is fill out. sign, stamp, and
mail the card to our head office
In a few weeks you’ll get a state
ment. If it doesn’t show your right
earnings, come to the social securi
ty office at 704 Jane Street in Way
cross. Bring the statement from our
head office and any pay records
you have.

This is to announce my candida
cy for the office of County Com
missioner for the Nahunta district
in the primary to be held March
11, 1964, subject to the rules and
regulations of the Democratic Com
mittee.
Since serving on the board I have
worked with state officals to get as
many miles of paved roads and
streets as possible in our county.
I have worked to eliminate wooden
bridges where feasable. The county
has 435 miles of roads to main
tain and I have worked to keep all
roads in as good shape as possible.
The county has improved and
built new office space for some of
our county agencies. I am happy to
say that Brantley County as of Jan.
1, 1964, was out of debt and had
some money in the bank. Most coun
ties have bonded indebtness. We
have none.
If elected to this office again I
promise to continue to manage the
affairs of this office in a business
like manner.
Your vote and influence . will be
appreciated.
