Everything else in the picture on the preceding page is made entirely or
partly of cellulose. For that matter, so is the page! And so are some 6,000
other useful products. Do you smoke cigarettes? The filters are cellulose.
Take pictures? The film is cellulose. Like sausages? The casings are
cellulose. Wear exotic rayon fabrics? They’re made of cellulose. Ride on
Tyrex tires? The cord is cellulose. • At that rate, can the supply last?
Sure. Cellulose grows. It’s made from trees, much of it from the slash pine
grown on tree farms in Florida and Georgia. Rayonier produces nearly
2 billion pounds a year, but we plant more trees than we harvest. Now all
our pine seedlings come from our own nurseries at Yulee, Fla., and
Glennville, Ga. So go right on smoking, picture taking, sausage eating,
rayon wearing, car driving and 5,995 other things — Rayonier in the
Southeast will keep the cellulose growing!

Dean Is for
Lower Taxes
And Economy
In Government
State Senatorial Candidate Ros
coe Emory Dean, Jr. of Jesup
stated that when elected State
Senator he would fight without
let-up for lower taxes and econo
my in government.
Already your hard-earned dol
lar is taxed far more than is
necessary. The time has come —
in fact passed — to call a halt.
We all know that thrifty admin
istration of government will save
enough money to pay for expand
ed state services. And we all
know that the amazing increase
in business and industry is pro
viding all the revenue the state
needs through income from exist-
NATURAL RESOURCES CHEMISTRY
ing taxes.
In 1960 the Governor’s Com
mittee on Economy and Reor
ganization made recommenda
tions that resulted in an annual
saving of $40,000,000. The legis
lature enacted those thrift re
commendations into law. But six
of the Committee’s proposals re
main to be acted upon by the
General Assembly. They could
save another $50,000,000 and I in
tend to fight to revive this cam
paign for economy.
The highest proof of my state
ments has just been made public.
It is the State Revenue Depart
ment’s report showing that the
past fiscal year, just closed,
jumped revenue income $43 mil
lion dollars over the previous
year. This increase in revenue
.came from business growth and
not new taxes. This $43 million
dollar revenue increase is sl2
million dollars more than the
need for improvement of educa
tion. This being true, I cannot see
i I
* - - JHara
the need of the new taxes voted
on us recently.
The state treasury also wound
up the fiscal year on July 1, 1964
with a S2O million dollar surplus.
In other words, the state has S2O
million dollars more than it needs
to operate the government. And
this surplus will be even larger
next year if the boom trend con
tinues. There is every indication
that it will.
And let me warn you. We have
another tax, a staggering one, in
the form of the state’s bonded
indebtedness of $550,000,000. You
and your children and generations
to come will be paying off that
indebtedness by the constant drain
of tax revenue.
THE VOTING RECORD OF
THE PRESENT STATE SENA
TOR SHOWS THAT HE VOTED
TO INCREASE YOUR TAXES
APPROXIMATELY $22 MILLION
DOLLARS.
When I am elected YOUR
NEW STATE SENATOR, I will
fight relentlessly for economy in
state government and against
ANY new taxes or increase in the
rates of the existing taxes. We
simply have got to “RELAX THE
TAXES WITH ECONOMY
AXES.” I WILL NOT BE A YES
MAN. I will fight for lower taxes
and a tax cut on the state level
when elected YOUR NEW STATE
SENATOR. (Adv.)
