Enjoying one of Georgia’s many summertime recrea
tional activities is pretty Martha Jo Logue. The comely
Milledgeville lass and her inflatable friend play in the
cooling waters of Lake Sinclair in Middle Georgia. The
15,000-acre lake, second largest located wholly within
Georgia, is one of 18 reservoirs formed by hydroelectric
generating stations of the Georgia Power Company.

Broome Will Fight Hard
to Save Small County
Representation
If elected representative from Brantley
County, I will do my best to save the small
counties of Georgia from losing their repre
sentation in the legislature.
The January session of the legislature has
been ordered by a district federal court to
reapportion the lower house of the legislature
according to population.
Reapportionment would mean that Brant
ley County, along with many other small
counties, would lose its representative. The
state would be apportioned according to popu
lation, with at least 20,000 people in each dis
trict.
Brantley County with about 6,000 popu
lation would have to be the tail to the kite of
some larger adjoining county, possibly two
other counties.
If elected representative, I will never vote
for any plan to abolish our right to a repre-
sentative in the legislature.
The people of Brantley County should
elect the best man fitted to make the fight to
keep our representative.

Taxes and Revenues
It has long been argued that a substantial tax re
duction would result in a business boom and lead to
an increase in government revenues. In the past,
this principle found small favor in the top govern
mental circles. But now, according to an extensive
article in U. S. News & W orld Report, the attitude
has changed. It says that the stimulation to business
that will come from the new tax reduction bill is ex
pected to “. . . lead to a rise of 4.6 billion dollars
in revenue for the Federal Government in the year
chat is to start next July 1.”
It is certainly high time this theory was given
every chance to prove itself. But, no matter how
great federal revenues become, there never was a
time when it was more necessary for federal spend
ing to be held at the lowest possible levels. This is
the only way that the ever-present threat of more
inflation can be minimized.
The Administration, U. S. News adds, anticipates
little if any inflation in prices. Whether that opti
mistic outlook proves true or false will depend, to
an enormous degree, on how the fiscal affairs of
the government are handled.
