New Chevrolet Cars Go on Display
In Dealer Showrooms Next Thursday
Chevrolet takes its longest
stride into the fine car field with
its 1965 passenger cars — plus of
fering the widest variety of lux
ury models and product features
in its 54-year history.
On display in dealer showrooms
on Thursday, Sept. 24, will be 45
models in five distinctive lines of
new Chevrolets. Os these, 20 will
be “sport models” — converti
bles and hardtops.
There are all-new cars in two
lines:
- The REGULAR CHEVRO
LET, long-time industry sales
leader, moves to a new prestige
plateau with the greatest comfort
and luxury ever offered.
— The CORVAIR makes a dra
matic advance with its first ma
jor styling change in five years.
Customer approved design, with
significant styling refinements,
is continued for the Chevelle, Che
vy II and Corvette lines. The
Corvette also becomes the first
American car to provide four
wheel disc brakes as standard e
quipment.
Among approximately 400 ac
cessories and optional features a
vailable on 1965 Chevrolets is the
first FM stereo system offered
by an auto maker. Another is a
telescoping steering column to
give greater driving comfort for
Corvairs and Corvettes.
With its new models, Chevro
let hopes this year to establish its
third successive industry sales
mark, S. E. Knudsen, general
manager, declared.
“For 1965, Chevrolet is keeping
pace with the public’s growing
preference for prestige transpor
tation with the widest possible
customer choice of options and
features to fit individual needs,”
he said.
Following are highlights of the
five members of Chevrolet’s
“family” for 1965.
REGULAR CHEVROLET -
The top selling line is an entire
ly new automobile for 1965. It is
the most luxurious car ever of
fered by Chevrolet.
Fifteen models in four series
stress a bigger car concept. The
new Chevrolet is longer by more
than three inches (to 213.1 inches),
wider by l-% inches (to 79.6 in
ches) and one inch lower (to a
sport coupe height of 54.1 inches)
than 1964 models.
Interiors offer greater roomi
ness — three inches more shoul
der room — plus increased leg
room, both front and rear. Floor
tunnels are substantially smaller.
The luggage compartment has a
flat floor for easier loading.
The all-new styling features an
entirely new look. Square front
fenders sweep through the body
into gracefully contoured rear
quarter panels. The grille is
framed by deeply recessed head
lights.
The rear deck is flat with a
slight downward taper to a full
width rear bumper. Chevrolet’s
traditional triple taillights are
hooded and extend back from ei
ther side of the rear panel. All
models have a low silhouette roof
line and curved side windows.
Convertibles have tempered glass
rear windows.
Beneath the new body is an
equally new chassis. A number
of improvements result in great
er ride and handling characteris
tics. The 119-inch wheel-base is re
tained.
A “wide stance” chassis gives
wider front and rear tread. The
front is wider by 2.2 inches to
a total width of 62.5 inches and
the rear is 3.1 inches wider to
a total of 62.4 inches. There is
improved full coil suspension both
front and rear.

SIXTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT:
That vote of confidence you gave me in my race for the State
Senate is a reward that I shall cherish forever and always strive to
justify fully.
Now it s time to get on with the real job. I want to begin by com
ing to see you and getting your ideas and advice. I have definite
ideas to discuss with you.
Next January I shall begin service as your voice and your vote
in the senate. I shall begin an unyielding fight for lower taxes
through strict economy, return of local government to local people,
expanded state services and morality in government. With your
active support, with your moral backing, and your sweeping man-
date for me to serve you fulltime, I know we will make the Sixth
District felt in state leadership.
Thank you for casting 12,454 votes in my behalf and thereby giv
ing me a better than 2-1 victory by carrying every county in the
district. I am grateful to all of you who voted for me and I fully
respect the right and privilege of those who did not. It is my duty
to work for ALL of our people. And that I will do.
I have fought the first fight. I have kept the faith. My own deep
personal feelings are contained in a historic small part of Lincoln's
Second Inaugural Address. He took office after a bitter campaign
and told his people:
"With malice toward none, with charity for all, and with firmness
in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish
the work we are in."
