In a double header in Odum
on Friday night, Nahunta de
feated Rayonier by a score of
67-59 and Odum beat Darien
by a score of 98-82.
Leading scorers for Nahunta
were Layton Johns 25 and Le-
Roy Ham 20 points. Rayonier
was paced by Frank McGarvey
with 19, John Tracy 16, and
Roger Kirkland 16 points. For
Odum Donald Miller had 34
and Franklin Griffis had 16
points. Jerry Jacobs paced
Darien with 29 points.

Bonds Chairman
For District
ATLANTA — Jack Williams,
Jr., editor-publisher of the Way
cross Journal-Herald and promin
ent civic leader, has been elevat
ed from U. S. Savings Bonds Ware
County Chairman to U. S. Sav
ings Bonds Chairman of Georgia’s
Eighth Congressional District.
The appointment was made by
Secretary of the Treasury Doug
las Dillon.
Mr. Williams succeeds the late
George M. Bazemore who served
with distinction in this volunteer,
patroitic capacity for many years.
In presenting Secretary Dillon’s
appointment certificate to Mr.
Williams, William R. Bowdoin,
State Chairman for Georgia’s Sav
ings Bonds Committee, thanked
him for assuming this wider re
sponsibility for coordinating ef
forts in building Savings Bonds
sales n this area, along with his
many other civic activities.
In accepting this new appoint
ment, Mr. Williams stated: “By
investing in U. S. Savings Bonds,
we as individuals help not only
our country in spreading the na
tional debt but we also aid in
creating a backlog of savings in
our local communities for future
spending in addition to laying a
side money for our future pro
tection.”
Particularly, h e commended
the bankers in this area for the
very substantial support they
give the program in issuing bonds
without cost either to the purchas
er or to the Treasury. Sales in
the Eighth District for the first
ten months this year were $1,093,-
029.
CHRISTMAS TREES
An opinion poll was conducted
at the recent Southeastern Fair
in Atlanta to see which of four
Christmas trees was the most
popular. According to Extension
Service Forester B. R. Murray,
approximately 600 people partici
pated. Fifty-one percent said they
preferred the white pine. Twen
ty-five percent liked the Arizona
cypress. 14 percent the tinted red
cedar, and 10 percent the untint
ed redcedar.
4-H Club News
CLOVERLEAF 4-H
The Cloveleaf 4-H Foods and
Nutrition Club—Group 1— met
Tuesday Dec. 15 at the home of
Barbara Allen.
The group came prepared to
make corn meal muffins. The fol
lowing girls were all first place
winners with their muffins; San
dra Brooker, Cindy Raulerson, Jo
Nell Robertson, Marcia Thrift,
Melanie Stallings, Wanda Mor
gan, Ann Rowell, Clarice Smith
and Joyce Murray.

Ann Huling, Sylvia Schmitt and
Andelyn Parse.
The next meeting of Group I
will be January 5, 1965.

LIVE OAK 4-H CLUB
The Live Oak 4-H Club held a
meeting, Dec. 14. The meeting
was called to order by the presi
dent, Jesse Walker. All stood and
pledged allegiance to the U. S.
flag.
Nancy Middleton read the de
votional. Our president reported
on the County Council meeting at
Hortense.
A motion was made and second
ed that we fix and give out toys
at Christmas.
The meeting was turned over
to Mrs. Raulerson. She gave a
demonstration on good buying
habits. She showed us some gifts
we could give to girls and boys
and teenagers. She also showed
us some gifts that some girls
made at grammar school that
would be appropriate gifts for
parents.

PALMETTO 4- H CLUB
The Palmetto 4-H Club met
Monday, December 14 in the Na
hunta High School Cafeteria, be
ing called to order by Johnny
Walker.
The pledge was given to the
U. S. flag and 4-H Club flag, fol
lowed by the Lord’s Prayer.
Minutes of the last meeting
were read by Laverne Middleton.
Anna Dee Wilson was elected to
represent our club in the beauty
contest.
Mrs. Raulerson gave a demon
stration on gift shopping. This
was helpful and enjoyable to all.
There being no further business
the meeting adjourned.
