U. S. ENGINEERS REPORT IS
UNFAVORABLE TO IMPROVING
SOUTHEAST GEORGIA RIVERS
U. S. Engineers have reported
unfavorably concerning the pro
posed improvements for the Sa
tilla and St. Marys rivers, it is
announced by the U. S. Engineer
Division, Atlanta.
Plans were considered for the
development of water resources of
the Satilla, St. Marys and Su
wannee River Basins. The plans
included dams and reservoirs for
flood control, power, navigation
water supply and quality control,
recreation and irrigation, as well
as levee protection and naviga
tion channels along the rivers and
tributaries.
The engineers reported that
benefits would not justify Federal
expenditures for the projects at
this time.
The reporting officers recom
mend (a) that no Federal im
provements be undertaken at this
‘ime on the Satilla, St. Marys and
Suwannee Rivers, <b) that the
Macclenny project on the St.
Marys River be included in future
studies for water resources de
velopment in the area, and (c)
that local agencies investigate the
possibility of flood-plain manage
ment along the Suwannee River.

Announcements
TO THE VOTERS OF BRANT
LEY COUNTY, AND THE
8 4TH REPRESENTATIVE
DISTRICT:
As most of you know, the
Georgia House of Representa
tives was recently reapportion
ed, and as a result, Pierce and
Brantley Counties will share
one representative in what is
known as the 84th Represen
tative District.
I am a candidate for this
new position, subject to the
Special Democratic Primary to
be held on May 5, 1965.
I am a lifelong resident of
Pierce County. I have practiced
law in Blackshear for the past
eleven years. I am married and
have three small children. For
the past two and one-half
years, I have been honored to
serve as the Representative
from Pierce County in the
General Assembly of Georgia.
In that capacity, I have tried
to the best of my ability to
serve the people of Pierce
County in a fair conscientious
manner.
If you see fit to elect me as
your Representative from the
84th District, I promise you
that I will serve all of the
oeople of the District, in the
same manner.
Due to the short time re
maining before the election.
I will not be able to see all of
vou personally. Therefore,
n’ease accept this as a personal
-poeal for your influence in
•ny behalf, and for your vote
on May sth.
Your support will be greatly
appreciated.
Sincerely.

This is to announce that I have
qualified as a Candidate for Re

I have served in the General

the friends that I have made will
enable me to carry out the duties
of this important office in a
efficient manner.
I would like to pledge myself
to work closely with the other of

Counties for the benefit of all
our Citizens.
The time is short and I will be
unable to see every voter in these
counties, but please consider this
as my request for your vote and
influence in my Campaign.
Sincerely yours,

Cordele Gets
New Mobile
Homes Plant
Groundbreaking ceremonies
for Georgia’s 29th mobile home
manufacturing plant were held
Thursday, April 1, in Cordele.
The new company, Cavalier
Homes Division of Princess
Homes, Inc., is constructing a
44,000 square foot building in
Hie Cordele Industrial Park.
The $250,000 structure is
scheduled for completion in
July. A spokesman said ap
proximately 100 employees
will be hired when full pro
duction is under way.
The Cordele Industrial Park,
one-half mile east of Interstate
Highway 75, is administered
by the United Industrial De
velopment Corporation, a
chamber of commerce organi
zation. One other mobile home
producer and a manufacturer
of parts used in mobile homes
are already in the park.
Princess Homes is head
quartered in Selinsgrove. Pen
nsylvania and has plants in
Tennessee and Kansas. The
Georgia operation is the parent
company’s fourth production
unit.
Mobile home manufacturing
is one of the fastest growing
segments of Georgia’s trans
portation equipment industry.
A newly rebased survey on
the mobile home industry re
veals that 3,000 Georgians are
employed in production. The
renort emphasizes Georgia’s
advantageous location permits
mobile home manufacturers to
serve the rapidly expanding
Southeast market while being
able to ship east and west also.
An estimated 20,000 units will
roll off the production lines
this year, according to the study.
Commenting on the new
plant in Cordele, State Indust
ry & Trade Director James H.
Nutter, Jr. declared. “The
announcement by Cavalier
Homes is further recognition
of the tremendous potentials
existing in Georgia for the
mobile home industry. We are
delighted that our staff was
able to assist the Chamber of
Commerce and the United In
dustrial Deve’onment Corpora
tion in Cordele in working with
the company.
“We certainly look to the
continuing growth of mobile
manufacturing in the state.”
