WOOD FOR PAPER
In 1940 only 700,000 cords of
Georgia wood were used for pap
er. Today, however, approximate
ly 5 million cords are used an
nually, according to Cooperative
Extension Service foresters.
It’s called Rayflo. This chemical made from tree bark converts thick, lumpy, sticky, oil well drilling mud into,
r
a free-flowing fluid. This makes the oil easier to get at. So it saves money.
Rayflo is a granddaddy silvichemical. Since its birth 12 years ago, we’ve modified it numerous ways
for boiler water treatment, grouting, pesticides, inks, soaps, ceramics, agricultural sprays, industrial cleaners..
Bark chemicals like Rayflo emphasize our concern for conservation and for utilizing the whole tree.
And trees we have! 300,000,000 in the USA and Canada. We grow them as crops so that there’ll always be
plenty to feed our big, hungry cellulose and wood pulp mills . . . with sufficient bark for silvichemicals to
satisfy all manner of industry.
Meanwhile our Research bums midnight oil probing the endless possibilities for these exciting new bark
chemicals. Watch for them! They could easily turn up in your business. Or your home.

COOKING PEAS
To cook canned peas, heat them
in the liquid in which they were
canned. This saves both food va

minutes of boiling for canned
