Hunting, Fishing
License Fee Hike
Governor Carl Sanders, speak
ing at the dedication of the Game
and Fish Commission’s new pub
lic fishing area in McDuffie Coun
ty recently called for a modest
increase in the price of hunting
and fishing license fees.
The governor’s remarks came
at the close of a brief address
to more than 600 Thomson-area
residents who turned out for the
opening of the State’s new concept
in “drive-in” fishing.
"Georgia license fees are now
among the lowest in the Na
tion, and consequently the Geor
gia Sportsmen’s Federation, the
Efficiency Commission, and other
interested organizations have sup
ported a modest license fee in
crease,” Sanders said.
“At the next session of the
General Assembly, therefore, I
will again support any legisla
tive effort toward establishing a
reasonable license increase in
hunting and fishing fees, so that
the future of hunting and fish
ing in Georgia can be adequately
protected.”
“I feel sure that Georgia’s
sportsmen realize that the time
has come for such a long over
due action. We now have a Game
and Fish Department organized
and staffed along professional
lines, guided by an objective
Commission of public-spirited ci
tizens. With sufficient operating
funds, the Game and Fish De
partment can develop in Georgia
the finest, and the safest, hunt
ing, fishing, and boating facili
ties of any State in the Nation,”
the Governor said.
LUMBER FROM OAKS
Many oaks native to Georgia
are excellent for lumber produc
tion. They should be encouraged
on bottomland and other moist
sites, say Extension foresters at
the University of Georgia.
