LIME FOR ACID SOILS
Using lime to correct acidity
is not a new practice. In fact, it
is as old as world civilization,
says Agronomist P. J. Bergeaux
of the Cooperative Extension Ser
vice. He says the Romans realiz
ed the value of using lime on le
gumes. The early settlers of A
merica realized it, too, and
Thomas Jefferson, in his me
moirs, wrote about the impor
tance of lime in crop production.
