Questions and Answers
on the Bible
BY MRS. GLADYS C. JOHNSON
What does God mean when He
says, "My spirit shall not always
strive with man, for that he also
is flesh: yet his days shall be
an hundred and twenty years."
Genesis 6:3.
God created man in His own
image, but man because of his
sin became corrupt and evil.
Children were born in the image
of fallen man and not in the im
age of God.
As the earth became more
densely populated, we find men
and women becoming more and
more sinful until God determined
to destroy the whole world. Yet
God is merciful and would not
bring judgment upon man until
he had been given time for re
pentance. Se He commands Noah

There's still time to prepare for winter
by converting to flameless electric heat
The first chill of autumn is in the air and winter
is on its way. But you still have time to install a
flameless electric heating system in your home.
Electric heat is clean, with no by-products
of combustion —no fuel grime or dust. It’s an
even heat, with no cold drafts or hot blasts.
It’s economical, too, for a special low rate is
available to total-electric residential customers.
And with budget billing, the electric bill is the
same amount every month.

GEORGIA POWER 221222^
to preach to them and tell them
that they would have but 120
years in which to repent and af
ter that — judgment.
During this period of time
His Holy Spirit would continue
to strive with them — but no
longer than the time allotted; for
“he should not always strive with
man, who was now become alto
gether flesh (or carnal).”
We know that although Noah
witnessed and although the Holy
Spirit labored with them, they
continued in their wickedness
and God destroyed them by the
Flood.
This should be a very grave
warning for we who are living
in this present Age of Grace.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ has
been proclaimed for almost 2,000
years and though some have be
lieved, there are countless multi
tudes still who have and are even
now resisting the witness of the
Holy Spirit as He attempts to
make His voice heard.
When Jesus left this earth He
promised that the Comforter or
the Holy Spirit would come in
His place and then “He (the
spirit) would reprove the world
of sin, and of righteousness, and
of judgment.” John 16:8.
The Holy Spirit troubles the un
regenerate man and endeavors to
make him conscious of his sin.
It is possible for man to resist
Him until His efforts are com
pletely “quenched.” Many times
He has been driven away by the
hardness of the sinner’s heart.
God is a just God and He gives
opportunity and time to repent
BUT when that time runs out
then the Holy Spirit ceases to
strive with the unsaved sinner.
God says, “Now is the accept
ed time; now is the day of sal
vation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2. We
have no guarantee that we have
even another five minutes in
which to heed the pleading of
the Holy Spirit so we should make
our peace with God while there
is yet time.
What is the order of events for
the Second coming of Christ?
The Second Coming of Christ
is not a one-act play, but rather
can be compared to a drama
consisting of several acts.
Paul tells us in II Timothy 3:1-5
“that in the last days it is going
to be very difficult to be a Chris
tian. For people will love only
themselves and their money; they
will be proud and boastful,
sneering at God, disobedient to
their parents, ungrateful to them,
and thoroughly bad. They will be
hardhearted and never give in to
others; they will be constant
liars and troublemakers and will
think nothing of immorality.
They will be rough and cruel,
and sneer at those who try to be
good. They will betray their
friends; they will be hot-headed,
puffed up with pride, and prefer
good times to worshiping God.
They will go to church, yes, but
they won’t really believe any
thing they hear.”
This is a word picture of world
conditions just before the first
scene opens in the return of
Jesus Christ. It reads as though
Paul was describing the year of
1965 in which we are now living.
Meteors and Comets
Since this is the season for skywatchers to
observe the strange behavior of meteors and
comets in the sky, a few words about them
are in order.
Most meteors and comets, whatever the
reader happens to call them, are very near
the earth and not far away — as many seem
to think. They are metallic substances which
have separated from a large mass and are
plummeting through the air, pulled to the
earth by gravity.
They fall into the layer of gases surround
ing the earth during day and night but are
observed only at night when the red hot
metal is visible as fire.
Most meteors burn out before they strike
the earth, melted into nothing by the heat of
friction created by the terrific speed at which
they pass into the atmosphere. Some do not
completely bum up before they hit the earth.
The chances of a meteor striking in your
neighborhood are a billion to one, but it
could happen.
Junkyard Scenery
One of the principal targets on which Presi
dent Johnson zeroed in when he launched his
“make America beautiful” campaign was the
auto junkyard.
And with good and sufficient reason.
There is no worse blight on the landscape
than vast acres of rusting car skeletons that
sprawl depressingly along almost any high
way.
President Johnson made it clear he wanted
something done to erase the blot and Con
gress, taking the hint, has been considering a
bill which would require adequate screening
to hide such eyesores.
But there comes now the suggestion that
there’s a better solution than merely letting
the old jallopies pile ever higher behind
screens.
The Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel con
tends that machinery already exists for practi
cal and economical processing of the junked
cars into re-useable raw material if the steel
mills would just take the time and trouble
to use it.
Harry Marley, the institute’s president, puts
it this way.
“If old cars are a blemish on our land, we
must treat the disease, not the symptoms, and
the problem will not be solved just by hiding
them.”
There is nothing in prophetic
Scriptures yet to be fulfilled
which would prevent what is
known in theological circles as
“The Rapture.”
Paul describes this event in I
Thessalonians 4:13-18. Christ will
come down from heaven with a
mighty shout and all the Chris
tians who have died will be the
first to rise and meet the Lord
in the air. These will not be
church saints only, but all the
bodies of saved people from the
beginning of time will be in this
first resurrection. This is the
resurrection “unto life” as des
cribed in I Corinthians 15:52.
Then the bodies of living be
lievers will be changed — in the
twinkling of an eye — from a
corruptible body into one which
will be like unto His glorious
body. They, too, will join Christ
and the other saints in the air.
Those who have refused to be
lieve in Christ and His Church
will not see Him at this appear
ing, but will only see the tragic
results which follow the removal
of the Church from this earth.
The second event covers a 7
year period which we call The
Tribulation. During this time Sa
tan will have free reign. Since
the Holy Spirit has been removed
with the Christian, sin will be
rampant here upon earth. This
will be a time of such trouble as
can scarcely be described, espec
ially for God’s chosen people,
the Jew, who will have returned
to Palestine in unbelief. Read Re
velation 11-18.
However, there will also be a
period of salvation during these
seven years. But remember that
this is not a second chance af
ter death. These who believe are
the ones who have been left alive
here upon earth after the Rap
ture. John tells us in Revelation
7:4-9 that there will be 144,000
Jewish people sealed for God and
an innumerable multitude of
Gentiles.
The third event immediately
follows the Tribulation period.
This is the Return of Christ in
glory to set up His Kingdom in
Palestine over which He shall
reign for 1000 years. We find Je
sus telling of the events which
take place at this time in the 24th
and 25th chapers of Matthew. He
now comes in judgment upon the
nations — or Gentiles. He se
parates the sheep from the goats.
At the close of His 1000 year
reign there will be the Great
White Throne Judgment. These
are the wicked dead who have
not taken part in the first resur
rection. They are now called be
fore God and judged every man
according to his works and “Who
soever was not found written in
the book of life was cast into the
lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15.
Satan is cast into the Lake of
Fire and then John says, “I saw
a new heaven and a new earth;
for the first heaven and the first
earth were passed away . .
Revelation 21:1.
Jesus Christ now reigns su
preme over a redeemed people
and a redeemed earth and we
shall reign with Him for eternity.

Added Protein
Ever tried combining peanut
butter with scrambled eggs?
Peanut butter scramble is an
example of the many ways
peanut butter, which is plenti

FERTILIZER INJURY
Young pecan trees may be
damaged by fertilizer. R. S.
Fletcher, Extension horticul
turist, University of Georgia,
says the injury is caused ei
ther by overfertilization or
fertilizer placement. Fertili
zer placed too close to the tree
will damage the root system.
All forms of fertilizer should
be applied in a circle at least
two feet from the trunk, ac
cording to Mr. Fletcher.

ON CLOTHES DRYING
If thin cotton blouses are dried
with heavy absorbent towels, the
blouses will overdry and become
wrinkled, says Miss Doris Ogles
by, Extension home economist
housing and equipment. If these
items must be dried together,
she suggests setting the time for
the lighter-weight articles, and
then resetting for the heavier
ones after removing the lighter
pieces.

Employ the Handicapped Week
Is Being Observed
The President’s Committee on
Employment of the Handicapped
has designated October 3-9 as
National Employ the Handicap
ped Week. Governor Carl Sand

Georgia cities and other local
committees on Employment of
the Handicapped have joined in
the recognition of this Week and
have proclaimed it State and Lo

NEH Week was first establish

by President Harry S. Truman
in October, 1945. The purpose of
the Week is to focus attention in
the outstanding performance re
cords and capabiliies of handi
capped workers and to call to the
attention of employers the need
to provide better employment op
portunities for the qualified han
dicapped persons who are now
seeking employment and ready
to work.
Employers throughout the state
who have made it a practice of
hiring handicapped individuals
report that these individuals have
less absenteeism, are equal to
or more productive, and have
fewer accidents than the other
employees classified as non
handicapped.
For these reasons the employ

During the past fiscal year, the

State Labor Department, during
the past year, placed 4,477 handi
