pidly drawing to a close. There
are still many bills and resolu
tions remaining to be passed by
the House, and Senate. In an at
tempt to consider all of these
measures, we expect to start work
early and stay late.
I am sure that most of you have
heard of the public hearing con
ducted by the Ways and Means
Committee on Senate Resolution
No. 15; commonly known as the
timber land tax matter. It was
gratifying to see several of my
constituents from Pierce and
Brantley Counties at the hearing.
This indicates to me that our
people are keeping up with what
is happening at the State Capi
tol and are making their views
known. The Ways and Means
Committee voted this measure out
with a Do-Pass recommendation.
The vote was a tie, and the chair
man was forced to cast his vote
in order to break the tie. It now
appears that due to mixed feel
ings in the House, this measure
probably will not pass.
I, along with most of the House
Members, was pleased with the
decision of the Federal Court sus
taining the action of the House
in ousting Julian Bond. The case
probably will be appealed to the

court will affirm the action of the
lower court.
My constitutents in Brantley
County will be happy to learn
that the Needmore Project has
been advertised for bids, to be
received on February 18, 1966.
This project extends from south of
Taylor Branch northwesterly to
Needmore, a distance of 4.365
miles, and will consist of grad
ing, draining, and paving. The
project for widening and resur
facing U. S. Route 301 from the
South City Limits of Nahunta to
the North City Limits, also has
been approved. This project will
consist of widening U. S. Route
301 to 64 feet, with curb, gutter,
and sidewalks. Both of these pro
jects were the result of the ef
forts of many people working to
gether for the good of Brantley
County.

REAL BASEBALL FAN
Miami, Fla. — While attending
a double-header, Edison Hartford
fell asleep. When the sixty-eight
year old man awoke, the stadium
was dark and the gate locked. He
yelled for help four hours before
a passing taxi driver heard his
call. The driver called police who
had to call firemen to use a lad
der to get Hartford over the
fence.
CONDENSATION PROBLEM
In poultry houses with metal
roofs, condensation is often a
problem. Extension poultry scien
tists at the University of Georgia
say many poultry farmers are
putting a layer of felt building
paper under the metal. This pre
vents condensation between the
roof and insulation.
ON CHANNEL 4 TUESDAY NIGHT
TV Program on
'Schoolhouse at
Proposals for major changes in
the structure of school systems
in the state of Georgia are the
subject of Project Four on
“Schoolhouse at the Crossroads:
The Story of Pierce County,” to
be broadcast in color on WJXT
TV, Channel 4, in Jacksonville on
Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 10:00 P. M.
Changes involve the proposed
clustering of rural counties into
larger school districts plus the
consolidation within counties of
some small school center, which
according to studies sponsored by
the state of Georgia would streng
then and improve the quality of
the educational program of the
present schools.

The huge waste water clarifier recently completed at the Jesup mill of Rayonier Incorporated measures 320 feet in di

receiving waters.
She was one of those nag
ging wives. One night she at
tended a lecture on “Smiling
Face Wins Through.” The lec
ture so impressed her that she
decided to try an experiment.
When her husband came
down to breakfast the next
morning he was met by a
beaming wife — smiling and
silent. Not a nagging word did
she utter for his being late.
For a moment he stood
dumbfounded in the doorway,
then collapsed. “Holy cow”
he mumbled, “she’s got lock
jaw!”
Pierce Is Entitled
the Crossroads'
The most recent recommenda
tions were contained in extensive
study of the Georgia school sys
tem by Peabody College prepared
at the request of the state. The
debate on both sides of the mea
sure is becoming vigorous.
Although the program was film
ed by WJXT News entirely in
Pierce County sampling feelings
and attitudes of local people, the
situation applies in different de
grees and circumstances to a
great many counties throughout
Georgia, it is believed.
“Project Four” is a production
of WJXT News and Public Affairs.
It is produced by Norm Davis and
photographed by Ron Johnson.
