TAYLOR PIANOS & OR GANS, DOUGLAS, GA. 4-14 Postal Service Fee Increases Begin Saturday Higher rates for the postal sys tem’s five “special services” will take effect next Saturday, Post master General Lawrence F. O’- Brien announced. The new rates — first announc ed Jan. 11 — are designed to put a 60 per cent dent in the annual S6O million deficit being register ed by the services. Money order, registry and C. O. D. fees will go up for the first time since 1961. The last pre vious fee increases for insurance and certified mail were in 1957. The fee for domestic and inter national money orders will be in creased by 5 cents. The minimum fee bracket for postal insurance will be increased from $lO to sls, with a minimum insurance fee of 20 cents instead of a dime. Above S2O, the fee will be 30 cents; above SSO, 40 cents; above SIOO, 50 cents, and above $l5O up to S2OO, 60 cents. The present registry fees of 60 and 75 cents will be combined in to a single 75-cent fee for values up to SIOO. Registry fees for ar ticles valued at more than SIOO will remain unchanged. The fee for certified mail wlil be increased from 20 cents for each item to 30 cents. And the present 40-cent and 50- cent fee brackets for C. O. D. mail will be combined into one 60-cent bracket for amounts up to $lO, with no change in fees covering items valued at more than $lO.
