FEWER COWS;MORE MILK
Fewer cows but higher milk
production—that seems to be the
dairy situation in Georgia. The
Crop Reporting Servcie says av
erage production per cow last
year was 5,800 pounds of milk.
This is a record. The number
of milk cows on Georgia farms
during the year totaled 170,000—
the lowest since CRS started its
estimates back in 1937.

Other families in Georg : a
enjoy low-cost
electric cooling/heating
IN COLUMBUS, the Dean R. Ludwigs chose
the electric way of living for their 9-room,
2-bath home. Air conditioning keeps summers
cool. Zoned resistance heating means winter
warmth. Mrs. Ludwig says, “Cleanliness is the
best part of electric living.” Appliances include
an electric range, dryer, washer, water heater.
Total Monthly Cost of Electricity $34.0(1
IN HOMER, Banks County, the Tom Cheeks’
3,800-square-foot, total-electric home has 9
rooms, 4^ baths. “We chose an electric heat
pump. It’s by far the best for year-round
comfort,” says Mr. Cheek. The Cheek family
enjoys an electric range, washer, dryer, water
heater, dishwasher and refrigerator-freezer.
Total Monthly Cost of Electricity $55.00
IN ROME, the five members of the Thomas C.
Holder, Jr., family enjoy a spacious 8-room,
8-bath home. Baseboard heating has Mr. Hold
er’s full endorsement. “I wouldn’t have any
other heat,” he states. Among the electric ap
pliances that serve them are a freezer, water
heater, washer, refrigerator and cooking units.
Total Monthly Cost of Electricity $29.00
IN TALBOTTON, Mr. and Mrs. George R. Jacob
selected a heat pump to cool and heat their
6-room, 2-bath home. Mrs. Jacob comments,
“Electric living is clean and economical.” A
stereophonic system adds pleasure. Electric
servants are a range, water heater, dishwasher,
washing machine, clothes dryer, refrigerator.
T otal Monthly Cost of Electricity $19.00
Why don’t you step up
to the joy of total-electric living?

SUMMER THINNING?
Some landowners hesitate to
thin timber in the summer be
cause of the risk of insect dam
age. Extension Service foresters
say there isn’t much reason to
expect damage from summer cut
ting except possibly in periods
of extreme drouth. They add that
if a stand of timber is in need
of thinning, then more damage is
caused by over-crowding than
would be caused by insects during
the cutting operations.
