Q. What is “dual duty”
thread and for what should
it be used?
A. “Dual duty” thread has
a nylon core which is wrap
ped with mercerized cotton.
This combination of natural
and man-made fibers makes
“dual duty” thread ideal for
use with the easy-care,
wash-n-wear fabrics.

has a plan of action to let
retired people enjoy full
benefits of Social Security
Bill Stuckey has pledged as part of his platform that he
will seek to amend the Social Security act so as to raise or
to eliminate the SISOO ceiling on the amount of yearly in
come a retired person can make and still be able to claim
his maximum Social Security benefit.
In a recent speech Bill Stuckey said: “Today those 65 or
older can draw the maximum yearly Social Security income
of $1630 if they do not make more than SISOO per year in
wages. If they make more than this amount, then their Social
Security is sharply reduced.
“What this means for the elderly, who earn SISOO a year
and draw the full $1630 from Social Security is that they
are forced by federal law to live on a yearly total income
of just $3130 —or right at the poverty level as defined by
the U.S. government.
“If I am elected to the U.S. Congress," Stuckey said, “I
promise to introduce a bill to raise to at least S3OOO the
amount elderly persons can earn and still receive the full
Social Security benefits to which they should be entitled.
“We can’t afford to waste skills and experience of oui
able-bodied elderly citizens by placing a limit on what they
earn and thereby destroying their initiative,” Stuckey said.

corative top stiching?
A. Buttonhole twist is es
pecially designed for this pur
pose. This heavy silk thread
can be found in only a limit
ed number of colors and
should be used only on fab
rics which will be cared for
by dry cleaning.
Q. What reliance can I
place on the word “pre
shrunk” on a fabric label?
A. Unless a label states
the fabric is sanforized or
gives percentage of residual
shrinkage which may be ex
pected ,you should not rely
on it. The term “pre-shrunk”
simply means that the fab
ric has been shrunk when
manufactured, but does not
assure you how much more
it can be expected to shrink.
Q. Can the new iron-on
hem tape be used on all fab
rics?
A. Yes. However, due to
the adhesive nature of this
tape, greater satisfaction will
result if another finish is
used on lightweight and sheer
fabrics.
Q. Are there any questions
I should ask myself when
purchasing bonded fabric?
A. Yes, there are a couple
of questions. (1) Does the

bonding contribute to the
fabric’s ease of care or ease
of construction? Bonding costs
extra and should serve some
useful purpose. (2) Is the
backing fabric grain perfect
with the face fabric? If it is
not, the fabric will not be
satisfactory when made into
a garment.

KEEP CHILDREN AWAY
FROM OUTDOOR FIRES
Outdoor fires attract child
ren, who are unwary of their
dangers.
In Autumn, for example,
youngsters — fascinated by
flames — will play with burn
ing leaves or trash, if allow
ed the opportunity.
The American Insurance
Association urges that such
fires never be left unattend
ed, even for a moment.
Fires and children spell
trouble. This is shown by the
toll in home fires in this
country. Last year, an esti
mated 12,000 persons — in
cluding 2,100 children, lost
their lives in such fires.

FOR THE THIRD consecu
tive year the Congress is being
pressured to put still more so
called civil rights laws on the
books.
First of all, it is extremely
difficult to consider this far
reaching legis
lation on the
basis of its im-
port and on
whether or not
it is in the
best interests
of the Amer-
lean people.
Emotions run
very high and all too often
the tone of the debate is set
by the howl of mobs in the
street.
Militant pressure groups bent
on taking the law into their
own' hands demand that this
legislation be enacted. Con
cerned only with their own
goals and selfish desires, they
care little for the rights of
other citizens.
Secondly, this legislation now
pending before Congress will
have the same effect as the
spate of so-called civil rights
bills in the past—that of de
stroying more rights than it
purports to give to anyone. As
in the past, the current pro
posals amount to little more
than granting special privileges
to special classes of our citi
zens at the expense of the
rights ancMmmunities of others.
THIS LEGISLATION is as
ill-advised as it is unwarranted.
And in many instances it is
patently unconstitutional. It
constitutes a power grab on

I DEAN TURPENTINE COMPANY I
612 CHERRY STREET — PHONE GA 7-2264
JESUP, GEORGIA
My dear Friend,
Several weeks ago an advertisement about me appeared without
my permission, authorization or knowledge in a newspaper OUTSIDE
of my Senatorial District. The paper in which the ad appeared was the
Brunswick News of Brunswick, Ga. This ad tried to lead one to
believe I was against the small businessman, industry, the turpentine
and pulpwood industry, the farmer and retail store outlets.
Why would anyone place such an ad in a newspaper OUTSIDE
my district and not in a newspaper within the district? The answer
is simple. The ad was placed in order that someone could show the
ad to certain people within our district hoping I would not find oui
about it. They thought the ad might lead to my defeat as State-
Senator.
Most people know that my family is engaged in the farming, tur
pentine and pulpwood business. They also know I conducted two
industrial tours in our senatorial district trying to get new industry
for our area.
Roscoe Dean has always fought for the small businessman and
retail store outlets, the farmer, the pulpwood and turpentine
industry and for new industry.
Two years ago the same type of dirty tactics were used against me
in my race for senator. My name was forged at the University of
Georgia in an attempt to get my school records. The people were not
fooled then and they will not be fooled now.
I am running a clean, wholesome campaign. I do not believe in
dirty politics, name-calling, smears, whispering campaigns, rumors
or lies.
Your vote is important to me. Please vote for me to be your State- ®
U Senator again. Thank you. f|
Faithfully,
ROSCOE EMORY DEAN JR.

the part of the federal gov
ernment of the worse sort.
No one in the Senate would
deprive any citizen of this
country of his constitutional
rights. We deplore any attempt
to do so, whether it be at the
federal, state, or local level.
But at the same time, we can
not stand idly by and watch
force legislation of the type now
being proposed railroaded
through Congress with utter
disregard for the Constitution
and the inherent rights of
American citizens.
It is incumbent upon every
Senator to resist any attempt
to deprive our people of the
right to own, manage and dis
pose of their private property.
We cannot regard lightly any
legislation that would make the
U.S. Attorney General a vir
tual czar over public schools
in America and empower him
to practice law enforcement by
injunction. We cannot counte
nance sweeping changes in the
federal jury system when they
would do more harm than good.
Nor shotfld the Senate turn the
selection of juries in state
courts over to the federal gov
ernment.
IT IS MY HOPE that the
Senate will carefully consider
all the aspects of this legisla
tion and send it to the defeat
that it deserves. As one mem
ber of the Senate, I will exert
every possible effort toward
this end.
