The Professional Funeral Director
* What are the characteristics of a truly
professional funeral director? He is the
man families return to because he has re
spected their confidences. He is the man
who has served them with taste and dis
cretion. He is the man whose advice and
suggestions in making arrangements they
have come to trust. He is the man whose
tact and thoughtfulness they have learned
to appreciate.

JUST WHAT
Some Things Some People Don't
Know About a Weekly Newspaper
1. A weekly newspaper must get 85 percent of its
expenses from advertising.
2. Space is the newspaper’s stock in trade. The
paper sells space, like the store sells goods, to pay
expenses.
3. Only about 15 percent of a paper’s expenses is
received from subscriptions.
4. The paper must first have subscribers in order
to be able to sell space for advertising.
5. The cost of publishing a weekly newspaper has
increased about four-fold in the last 25 years.
6. The increased cost is caused mainly by the great
increase in costs for labor and machinery.
7. A newspaper does not charge for publishing
news articles, that is, items that are non-commercial
and not personal messages, memorials or resolutions.
8. A newspaper can publish only a limited amount
of news in each issue.
9. A newspaper must cut down many articles of
news to fit the space available and the time to set
type.
10. A newspaper editor reserves the right to edit
all news articles, that is, to shorten, to correct or to
improve.
Summer Workers
Are Urged to
Return to School
Commissioner of Labor Ben
T. Huiet has expressed con
cern that Georgia’s almost
full employment might en
courage student summer
workers to remain on their
jobs rather than return to
school.
“Our expanding economy
is demanding specialists with
knowledge undreamed of ten
years ago and the young peo
ple who enter the labor mar
ket unprepared can never
hope to keep pace with ad
vancing technology,” Huiet
stated. He asked the cooper
ation of employers in getting
the summer workers back in
school, even when they are
needed on the job.
CHIGGER HUNTING
To locate chigger-infested
areas, follow this suggestion
from the U. S. Department
of Agriculture: Place a small
piece of black construction
paper edgewise o n the
ground, or lean it against a
tuft of grass or fallen
branch. Watch it for a few
minutes. If you see small
orange or pinkish mites mov
ing rapidly across the paper,
you’ve found chiggers.

HOW LONG does ANY man expect to remain in office before
his record catches up with him?
Apparently, the record of Mr. Warren's opponent has finally
overtaken him and made citizens of our county wonder just WHAT
KIND of representation they have been getting!
James Warren is a "DOER" and not a "TALKER".
