DOWN ON THE FARM

Pierce County Farm Bureau Chapter
The article stated that two
farmers in the same county
on the same date had been
killed by falling beneath
“bush-hog” attachments on
their farm tractors. A “bush
hog” is sometimes referred to
as a rotary mower.

ago observed a farmer trying
out a huge, shiny, new tractor

The farm with its mechaniz
ed equipment can be a dan
gerous place. Today there are
com pickers, combines, cotton
pickers, gasoline and electric
motors, and numerous motor
driven belts or pullies.
There are animals of po
tential danger, insecticides,
pesticides, and farm ponds.
The faim machinery and
equipment, insecticides, pesti
cides, and farm ponds can be

safe if caution is obeyed.
Otherwise the farm can be
one of the most dangerous
places.

year some 2,287 people lost
their lives from accidential
