Some Georgians
Gypped by Phony
'Termite Inspectors'
Two arrets were made last
week as the Georgia Depart
ment of Agriculture moved to
curb slim-slam artists posing
as termite inspectors who have
been gypping residents of
Georgia out of thousands of
dollars, according to Commis
sioner of Agriculture Phil
Campbell.
Campbell said inspectors of
his department are continuing
their investigation to deter
mine whether others are invol
ved in the fly-by-night opera
tions.
All legitimate pest control
exterminators in Georgia have
to pass rigid requirements and
be licensed by the State. They
are required by law to travel
in well .marked vehicles iden
tifying their business when
soliciting business or carrying
out their work and .must carry
with them an identification
card issued by the Depart
ment.
Georgians were warned to
use care in dealing with stran
gers trying to sell a termite
exterminating job. If not fami
liar with the person or com
pany making th^ sales presen
tation, those approached
should check with local law
enforcement officials or take
the time to write the State
Department of Agriculture.
Capitol Square, Atlanta, and
check on the reliability of the
salesman and the company he
claims to represent, the Com
missioner said.
Under no conditions should
anyone allow an individual or
group to perform pest control
or termite eradication work
without making sure that such
persons are oualified and li
censed by the Department,
Campbell stated.
