Eggs Plentiful For May Meals Southeastern homemakers can expect an abundance of eggs at reasonable prices dur ing May, reports the Consumer and Marketing Service of the U. S. Department of Agricul ture. The large egg supply is due mainly to a larger laying flock. Other foods that will be plentiful during May include orange juice, potatoes and beef. ’ Frozen orange juice concen trate, canned single strength orange juice and chilled or ange juice will all be featured in May. The pack of frozen orange juice concentrate in Florida, through mid-March, has exceeded last year’s pro duction by 64 percent. The chilled orange juice pack is about 20 percent .more than last year’s, and the output of canned single strength orange juice is about the same. A late winter freeze, delay ing the Florida potato harvest, coupled with excellent grow ing conditions in most of the early spring potato states, is expected to cause heavy mar ket shipments in May. In ad dition to the storage supply, volume levels of new crop po tatoes will be flowing from Alabama, Florida, California and Arizona during May. A recent report shows that on March 1, there were 10 per cent more cattle on feed than a year ago in five major feed ing states. Beef production under USDA inspection for the year, to date, is about 5 per cent larger than in 1966. High quality beef is expected to continue in plentiful supply at prices attractive to south eastern homemakers for the next several months.
