ELECT LAYTON JOHNS
SHERIFF
This is in response to some of the criticism
I have been hearing in the last few days as
to why a man with a degree from one of the
major universities of the South would want
to become sheriff of our county.
First, let me point out that my education
was made possible by you, the good people
of Brantley County. Through your loyal support
and cheers, you gave me the opportunity to
get an education at Auburn University on a
basketball scholarship.
I appreciate what you have done for me
and would like to use my education to benefit
the people of our county. I can think of no
better way to show my appreciation than to
serve you as chief law enforcement officer.
The Sheriff's office of Brantley County is
one of great responsibility and I personally
feel that it merits the best. When elected I
expect to use all my energies to do the best
possible job. This office should be filled by
a man who is well read on national, state,
and local affairs; one who has a good under
standing of people, and who realizes that in
most situations more can be accomplished by
leading than by brute force.
The youth in our county also need to be
led and their energies directed. The Sheriff's
Department can be of great value in this area
and when elected, I plan to spend part of
my time in the capacity of guidance and
counseling.
OF BRANTLEY COUNTY
ELECTION JANUARY 9
IN THE
Here are a few of the things I hope to
accomplish when elected to the high office
of sheriff. As many of you know, the tourist
industry is a great asset to our economy. I
intend to protect our local investors and our
tourists by providing courteous and reliable
service. Furthermore, I will not tolerate the
tourist being preyed upon by the so call
"clip joint" operators we have heard so much
about in the past.
The farmers and people who live in the
rural areas of our county also need protection.
I will, to the best of my ability, protect them
from stealing and vandalism. In my opinion,
one of the best ways to combat these evils
is by county-wide patrolling.
In answer to the many questions concern
ing the blue laws, I believe that the final
decision rests with the people by vote. I will
represent the people and abide by their
decision.
I intend to work closely with the sportsmen of
our county and to enforce the hunting laws
so that our wildlife can continue to prosper
and multiply, and be a source of pleasure to
ail.
When I am elected your sheriff, I will serve
100% of the people and 100% of the
county. Your support and your vote on
election day will be greatly appreciated.
LAYTON JOHNS
Respectfully yours,
The Brantley Enterprise, Nahunta, Ga., Thursday, Jan. 4, 1968
