Johns said Charles Alvin Kelly of Alma was listed as missing by the fire depart ment Carter’s horse swam about 150-yards offshore twice to rescue the men, grabbing each by the shirt and pulling them onto the horse’s back during the two trips into the surf. On the horseman’s third trip into the water he was unable to find the third man, Johns said. The search for the missing .man was continued by the U. S.
