The party’s over,
but your security light
stays on ’til dawn.
The last guest left at the stroke of midnight.
Now it’s time to rest after an evening of fun.
Sleep comes easily when you know a bright
guard is still on duty outdoors.
A mercury-vapor security lamp, controlled by
a photoelectric cell, automatically bathes your
home, farm, business or industry in a protective
pool of electric light. From dusk to dawn.
You can have a 7,000-lumen lamp for $4 a
month. A 20,000-lumen fixture for $6.75 a
month. Prices include installation on existing
pole, maintenance and electricity used.
For details on the dusk-to-dawn lighting
service, call Georgia Power, or mail the coupon.

Today’s pork is much leaner

Agronomist Says
Soybeans Boost
State Economy
Although soybeans are pro
viding a real boost to Geor
gia’s agricultural economy, the
potential for this crop in the
state has not yet been ap
proached, says James E. Jack
son, an agronomist of the Uni
versity of Georgia Cooperative
Extension Service.
The Georgia Crop Reporting
Service has said that the 542,-
000 acres planted to the crop
in 1967 produced beans valued
at more than $31,000,000 but
Mr. Jackson pointed out that
Georgia’s, poultry industry a
lone consumes each year about
twice the amount produced in
the state last year.
“Poultry,” he said, “is our
biggest user of soybeans. A
bout 26 million bushels are
needed for chicken feed in the
state each year. Other live
stock feed accounts for an ad
ditional four million bushels
each year.
To increase total production,
Georgia farmers need to step
up yields per acre, Mr. Jack
son said. According to the
Crop Reporting Service, the
state’s average last year was
24 bushels per acre.
One Southwest Georgia
farmer who has found the key
to these higher yields, the a
gronomist continued, is Ed
Clark, of Preston, who averag
ed slightly over 42 bushels per
acre on 38 acres.
County Agent R. M. Mat
thews said that Mr. Clark’s
production practices were
built around the use of ade
quate lime and fertilizer bas
ed on soil test recommenda
tions. Mr. Clark applied one
ton of limestone in early
spring and then used 500
pounds of a 5-10-15 fertilizer
per acre at planting.
He planted the Hampton 266
variety in 28-inch rows on May
8 using one bushel of seed per
acre.
Soybeans are an' excellent
cash crop when you get 35
bushels or more per acre, the
agronomist said. He pointed
out that there is a ready mar
ket, a high support price with
no acreage controls and that
labor and investment costs are
low.
IMPORTANT LINK
Food is an important link in
any wildlife species chain of
requirements, according to
Dave Almand, Extension Ser
vice wildlife specialist. To be
really useful, the food must
be plentiful and close to cov
er that will furnish protection
from weather and enemies.
