Slow Down and
Avoid Death by
'Mystery Crash'
Nearly half the traffic deaths
in Georgia in 1968 occurred
with only one vehicle involved.
This has promoted the Geor
gia Safety Council to caution
all drivers to slow down and
make sure a safe speed is
maintained at all times, and
that control of the car is con
stantly in the hands of the
driver.
Edgar J. Forio, Chairman
of the Board of the Georgia
Saftey Council, has released
1968 figures complied by the
Safety Council, and the State
Highway Patrol.
Among the 1,765 Georp’a
traffic fatalities in 1968, 625
died in the “.mystery crash”.
This is the type of crash in
which only one car is involved,
and it runs off the road out
of control and hits a solid ob
ject or turns over, or both. In
addition to the 625 who died
in “mystery crashes” another
229 died in pedestrian mishaps,
and here again only one car
was involved in each fatality.
Mr. Forio. in commenting
on these deaths said, “It is dif
ficult to deal with the driver
who refuses to adjust his dri
ving to prevailing conditions.
Some of these ‘mystery crash’
fatalities occurred at speeds
well within the posted limit,
but the driver lost control be
cause he didn’t adjust to condi
tions.”

BROOD COWS
Wintering the brood cows is
a big cost item for the beef
producer. Extension animal
scientists at the University of
Georgia point out wintering of
brood cows accounts for 30 to
40 percent of the total annual
production costs. A producer
has to do a good job feeding
good brood cows in winter, and
he can’t afford to feed a poor
brood cow.
