Pierce County Stock Yard reports having a
good sale last Friday, April 25. Top prices were
brought for hogs with Ring Hogs selling up to
$20.10; Heavy I's up to $20.85; Sows up to
$17.60; Regular No. I's, $20.00; Regular Light
I's, $20.00; Regular Heavy I's, $19.70; No. 2's,
$19.15; No. 3's, $18.50; No. 4's, $14.85;
No. s's, $15.05; LR, $16.00; HR, $15.55; EHR,
$16.35; EEHR, $15.95; and males, $14.05. Cows
sold up to $24.50; Bulls, $25.30; Steers, $36.20;
and Calves, $45.50.
FEEDER PIG SALE
Wed., May 7, 7:00 P. M.
All pigs will be inspected and checked for
disease and treated for hog cholera prior to the
sale.
Anyone interested in selling at this sale

than Monday, May 5, so that inspection can
be made before the sale.

Symposium on
Science Attended
By Ga. Students
Douglas, Ga.-Twelve Eighth
Congressional District Honors
Program students were the
only out-of-state participations
in the Sixth Florida Junior
Science, Engineering, and
Humanities Symposium held at
the University of Florida in
Gainsvilh- April 24-26.
The Symposium, which feat
urged three laboratory sessions
with scientists in addition to
several general sessions, was
subsidized by the Department
of Research of the United
States Army for outstanding
high school students. The ob
jectives of the Symposium
were: to promote the study of
the sciences and mathematics,
particularly at the high school
level; to demonstrate the part
which the humanities play in
the development of the scien
tist; to emphasize the imports
ance of both the sciences and
the humanities to the national
culture and general welfare;
to search out potentially talen
ted youth and to assist in
developing their interests and
abilities; to provide recogni
tion and prestige in the school
environment for students who
demonstrate an appreciation of
and aptitude for scientific
studies; and to assist the career
-choosing process by reveal
ing some of the opportunities
in the sciences.
Students selected this year
for the honor are: Lauren A
doff, John T. Cobb, Debbie
Russell, Ken Milans, and Wini
fred Stebbins, Brunswick; Bill
Bowers, Valdosta; Dean Carl
Broome, Jr., Blackshear; Larry
Thomas Gattis, Waycross; Rus
sell Scott Lewis, Nahunta;
Wayneman McMillian Walker,
Eastman; George Williams,
Pearson; and Dan Garrett,
Douglas.
Accompanying these stu
dents to the Symposium were:

Director of the Honors Pro
gram and now Co-ordinator for
Title 111 for the State of Geor
gia; James Adams, physics
teacher at Glynn Acadamy in
Brunswick, and who will teach
physics in the Fourth Eighth
Congressional District Honors
