health care into all areas of
the community, according to
Glenn M. Hogan, executive
director of the Georgia Hospi
tal. Association.
“ The traditional role of a
community hospital has been
to provide care for patients
within its walls,” he explained.
“However, many of our Geor
gia hospitals are fast envolv
ing into centers carrying a
broad spectrum of health ser
vices out into the community—
services aimed at diagnosis,
treatment, rehabilitation, edu
cation and prevention.”
Currently there are some
175 community general hos
pitals operating in Georgia,
employing approximately 38,-
000 persons who earn $l6O mil
lion each year. Georgia hos
pitals have an investment of
some SSOO million in buildings
and equipment. On an average
day 15,000 people are occupy
ing beds in Georgia’s gener
al hospitals.
