John Floyd DAR Chapter Hears State Vice-regent John Floyd Chapter DAR members were welcomed by special banner to the Camelot Room of the Holiday Inn in Waycross Thursday for their annual luncheon meeting. Mrs. T. C. Blalock, county vice-regent, was in charge of arrangements, and the Way cross-Ware County members were hostesses. The head table was decora ted with a center of red, white, and blue flowers, and was in terspersed with magnolias a long the center of the table. The other tables were centered with a wide ribbon of red, white, and blue, and intersper sed with magnolias in crystal bowls. The napkins were red, enhancing the beauty of the setting. Mrs. Herbert Corbett, Sr., .gave the invocation, and pledge to the flag. Miss Martha Cooper of Per ry, introduced by Mrs. J. Mar vin Strickland, gave informa tion to the .members on na tional Defense. Miss Cooper, Georgia’s first vice-regent, and National Defense Chairman of NSDAR, spoke of some of the immediate threats to the U nited States: trouble on the American campuses and sub versive organizations. She urged that members study organizations before mining them, and that com munities be aware. She ended by giving a hu morous recipe on “How to Cook A Frog!” Using this as an example of how persons are brought into a situation un aware, and how they might be taken in gradually, she said: “Never put him in hot water first. Put him in cold water, and bring slowly to a boil, cook until dead! If placed in hot water first, he will al ways jump out!” Mrs. Maurice Cameron of Mc- Rae was present and was re cognized as receiving a nation al award at the national con vention in Washington D. C„ in April. She is state organizing secretary, and had organized societies having more mem bers than any other state in the United States. She brought greetings to the chap ter. Mrs. Leslie McPhee of Pear son was congratulated upon the appearance of her scrap book. She is state scrapbook chairman. Mrs. Barbara Allen, Folkston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ho mer Allen, was introduced by Mrs. Delene Allen as the Good Citizen of the Year from the Chapter. She received a pin and a certificate. She is a i senior in the Folkston High ; School. Her mother was a j special guest with her. Mrs. Wylder Williams in troduced a new member, Mrs , Kenneth Douglas, Homerville.' Mrs. Curtis Rice, another new .member, was absent, due to illness in her family.
