ASC Farm Committee
Ruling Can Be Appealed
Farmers who feel that the
County Agricultural Stabili
zation and Conservation Com
mittee made a mistake have
the right to appeal. George
Dykes, Chairman of the Brant
ley County ASC Committee
said recently.
Appeals relating to the farm
marketing auota for crops for
which marketing quotas are
in effect (cotton. peanuts,
certain kinds of tobacco) are
considered by a review com
mittee appointed by the Sec
retary of Agriculture. Appeals
on all other matters are con
sidered by the County Com
mittee.
“No red tape is involved in
making appeal. All a farmer
has to do is write out a notice
to the County ASC Committee
that he is appealing a com
mittee decision. He then must
get this notice of appeal to
the County ASCS Office with
in 15 days from the date of
the committee decision,” said

gram on the history of Christ
mas Carols was given.
Denise Smith,
Reporter
Mr. Dykes.
However, he pointed out that
a farmer should have addi
tional pertinent information
to place in the record, since
it would be unlikely a deci
sion would be changed if there
is no change in the data on
which it was based originally.
Any determination or deci
sion made by the County ASC
farm programs .may be ap
pealed. These could include
acreage allotments and bases,
projected yields, farm consti
tutions, action on an ACP
cost-sharing request, determi
nations of non-comlience
with program provisions, and
other county committee ac
tions.
A farmer may continue an
appeal on up the line, if he
chooses, to the State ASC
Committee and to agency of
ficials in Washington, or to
the courts in the case of a
marketing quota appeal, said
Mr. Dykes.
