Richardson of 104 Enterprise St., Brunswick, Ga., mechani cally slipped into his pocket was a two-headed nickle. Shortly afterward, he want ed to buy soft drink and reached into his pocket for change. The nickle came heads up in his cupped hand and, as he looked at it, the nickle dropped over. “I almost had heart failure,” he says as he recalls seeing Thomas Jeffer son’s profile once again on the reverse side. Recognizing he had a very rare coin, Policeman Richard son took the nickle to the sta tion’s bank and showed it to personnel there who appear ed “skeptical” and could offer no significant information as to the nickle’s authenticity. Policeman Richardson then turned the coin over to John Held in the Office of Naval Intelligence at Glynco, who handed the coin to a local a gent of the U. S.Treasury. Up on examination, the treasury agent expressed the opinion that it was a genuine coin and said, “It is quite a find.” The lucky station guard did some checking of his own and was unable to determine from any local source the worth of the two-faced nickel. Action is being taken through the weekly Coin World newspap er to help him determine its value. Observing coins is nothing new for Policeman . Richard son who confided that he de veloped an interest in coins while serving as a bar mana ger in the Army. “Once I ev en found as 3 gold piece in a roll of pennies,” he said.
