A Public Announcement from
the Office of Drs. Jordan,
Drury and Oliveira
To properly inform the public and dispel any mis
conceptioji that may arise, we the undersigned make
the following announcement.
Beginning Aug. 1, 1970, Drs. Jordan, Drury, and
Oliveira will engage in separate medical practices in
St. Mary’s, Ga. This decision has been mutually a
greed to for purly personal and individual consider
ations. For the present we will continue to occupy the
office we have occupied in the past.
Because of the possible misinterpretation which
could arise from Dr. Drury’s candidacy for the of
fice of State Representative, we wish to categorical-
ly affirm that a mutual respect for the personal and
professional abilities and integrity of each of the
three members of our group has and does exist. We
further state that in the future we intend to consult
freely with each other to continue to provide the best
medical care for our patients.

flameless electric heat pump
Winter’s very welcome when the weather’s hot. The
crunchy snow and lemon sun are beautiful from the dis
tance of summer’s heat. But winter’s real wind and cold
make one long for a buzzing, muggy August afternoon.
There’s not a perfect season, outdoors. Indoors, you
can have the weather you prefer with an electric heat
pump. Like it cool and crisp? It’s yours. Heat suit you
better? Dial the temperature you want on the thermostat,
and that’s the temperature you'll get. No matter what
the season or the time of day.
You’ll also get, for a small monthly charge, 10 years
of complete maintenance under our service plan.
So what if the heat pump can’t make the snow fall
or the sun shine? It can make you care less.

Diseased Corn
Not Toxic
To Animals
By George A. Loyd,
County Agent
During the past few weeks
several inquiries have been
made concerning the toxic ef
fects that corn infected with
southern leaf blight might
have on livestock to which it
is fed.
Due to some misformation
that came out of Florida, many
rumors have existed that corn
having southern leaf blight is
poisonous to animals.. Fortun
ately these rumors are untrue.
Pathologists and animal nutri
tionists from several states
have been testing the effects
that corn having this disease
have had on animals to which
it was fed. No ill effects have
been found in any of the tests
made.
There are certain molds that
grow on corn under some con
ditions that are. poisonous to
cattle and swine, but there is
no evidence that Helminthos
porium Maydis which causes
southern leaf blight in corn is
one of them.

be part of a general upper res
piratory infection or a warn
ing sign that you are doing
something wrong — smoking,
drinking too much, abusing
your vocal chords or perhaps
inhaling dust, fumes or other
air pollutants. If you have a
simple case, it generally clears
up in a few days. However, if
hoarseness persists or keeps
recurring, it can be a warning
that something is very much
wrong. See your doctor by all
means. Long-lasting hoarse
ness, for example, can be a sign
of throat cancer, usually cura
ble if it is caught in time.
What are callouses?
Callousess are nature’s way
of protecting feet and hands
from, friction and pressure.-In
many instances they are quite
necessary — guitarists and cel
lists, for example, work at
building up protective callous
es on their fingers. If you wear
high heels, you’ve probably no
ticed that the heels and balls
of the feet develop a calloused
area for a little extra rein
forcement. Sometimes callous
es can become unsightly or
painful—and then they - should
be removed. Soak the calloused
area and then rub away at the
callous with a pumic stone or
one of the specially formulated
removers? If you remove the
dead skin cells merely a layer
a day, you will soon get rid of
the callouses completely. Then
the next step is trying’ to pin
point the cause —tight shoes,
constant rubbing or whatever
—and removing the irritant.
