Wives Os POWs
Eligible For GI
Home Loans
Atlanta — Legislation en
acted in the last week of 1970
makes it possible for wives of
certain active duty servicemen
to obtain Gl home loans.
Georgia Veterans Service
Director Pete Wheeler said,
“Public Law 91-584 re-defines
the term ‘veteran’ for GI loan
purposes. Under this new law,
the term ‘veteran’ now in
cludes the wife of any mem
ber of the Armed Forces of
the United States serving on
active duty who was officially
listed for more than 90 days
as either ‘missing-in-action’ or
‘captured in line of duty by a
hostile force,’ or ‘forcibly de
tained or interned in line of
duty by a foreign government
or power.’ ”
Wheeler said that loan eli
gibility to the wife is “limited
to one loan, and entitlement
automatically terminates if
not used when official notice
is received indicating that her
husband is no longer classified
in one of the afore mentioned
categories.”
The law provides that any
entitlement used by the wife
will not reduce the GI loan
entitlement due the veteran.
“This means,” said Wheeler,
“that a wife might use her
entitlement to purchase a GI
home while her husband is in
a ‘missing-in-action’or‘prison
er of war’ status. Then when
the veteran is released he can
also use his entitlement at a
later date.”
Application for such bene
fits may be made at any office
of the Georgia Department of
Veterans Service.

Agricultural lime corrects
soil acidity, but that’s not all it
does. It is also a fertilizer
material. Lime contains
calcium, and in the case of
dolomitic limestone,
magnesium as well. Both
calcium and magnesium are
essential elements for plant
growth.
