GEORGIA,
BRANTIEY COUNTY
At a special called meeting
ofthe Mayor and City Council
ofthe City of Nahunta, Georg
ia, held on August 26, 1971,
at City Hall the following re-
solution was made and entered
into, as follows:
WHEREAS, by virtue of the
City Charter of the City of
Nahunta, Georgia, it is now
approaching the time for the
holding of elections to fill the
term of Mayor and Aidermen
fer the City of Nahunta for a
new term, and
WHEREAS, under the law it
is necessary to implement the
election machinery existing
under the present City Charter
pursuant to the holding of an
election on the first Wednesday
in October, 1971, and
WHEREAS, pursuant to said
City Charter the Mayor and City
Counci l of the City of Nahunta
enter into the following resol-
ution pertaining to the holding
ofelectionsfor Mayor and Aid-
ermen of the year 1971.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED that the qualifying
time and day for the opening
ofthe books for the acceptance
of candidates for the office of
Mayor and Aidermen of the
City of Nahunta shall be and
the same is the 3rd day of
Septembe, 1971, at the City
Hall in the City of Nahunta
with the City Clerk. All app
lications shall be in writing
expressing their entention to
run for such office and shall be
filed with said Clerk on or by
closing date. The public is
hereby notified that the 11th
day of September, 1971, at
12:00 o'clock noon is the date
upon which the qualifying time
shall close and only those per
sons who have Submitted in
writing their intention to run
shall have their names appear
ing upon said ballot. Qualify

the same as is used for the
election of county officials.
Polls will be open from 7:00
o'clock A.M., until 6:00
o'clock P.M., on Wednesday,
October 6,1971.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that in- the holding of this
election that no absentee ball
ots shall be used. This resol
ution is pursuant to the City
Blackshear, Ga
Charter which requires an el-
ection to use or not to use ab-
sentee ballots.

sons interested in collecting
slash pine cones should contact
the local County ranger.
Wynens added that cone pur
chasingwillbegin on Tuesday,
September 7th. Collections
will be confined to Central and
South Georgia which is the pri
mary range for the slash pine.
Persons collecting cones will
receiveds2 per bushel. Forestry
Commission personnel will not
accept dead or immature con
es. Cones that have an excess
ive amount of trash and debris
will not be accepted.

Mr. Oliver Highsmith of this
city received a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Machanical
Engineering on August 27, 1971
from Auburn University in Ala
bama. Oliver is a 1964 grad
uate of Nahunta High School
and also graduated from the
Cincinnati School of Embalm
ing in 1966. He attended
Middle Georgia College in
Cochran for pre- engeering
courses.
He has accepted a position
with Northrop Corporation in
the Electro-Mechanical Divis
ion in Huntsville, Ala. His
employment wi 11 be with S pace
and Orbital Mechanices in the
space program.
Oliver is the son of Mrs. Esther
Highsmith of Nahunta.
