VOLUME 49-NUMBER 39
A Voice in the Wilderness
LITTLE FISH GET BIT
The ENTERPRISE was notified in letter
form, the plan for Reapportionment of the
State of Georgia. The plan as presented
would split Brantley County.
The plan sent to this newspaper has been
approved by the Committee for Reapport
ionment of the House of Representatives
and is scheduled to be brought before the
General Assembly at the next session.
Until a few years ago, Brantley County
had as much voice in our State Government
as any other county. When the County Unit
System was abolished, Brantley lost much
of it's voice and it has steadily deminished.
After the County Unit System was lost, our
representative also represented Pierce
County and that was later changed to the
present system. We are now represented
by an elected official that must look out for
the affairs of both Camden and Charlton
Counties.
When the people of our country grew tir
ed of Taxation with-out Representation,
with their governmental seat 4000 miles
away, they rebelled and formed their own
nation. They set up their own government
that has stood until today. The states were
formed in much the same manner and under
the same princioals. Brantley County as
many may remember, was formed primar
ly because the people wanted government
that would be closer and more responsive
to their needs.
For the people living in the eastern port
ion of Brantley, could their problems be
related to problems of the citizens of Jeff
Davis County?
Could a man elected as representative,
whose home is in Douglas (Coffee County)
be expected to know, understand and solve
problems that will occur in Nahunta and
Hoboken?
Another interesting area that we may
question is: Why are the preponderance of
counties to be divided small, lightly pop-
ulated and rural like Brantley and Long?
What fish do the big fish gobble up first?

ATCO FALLS TO
HERONS 28-0
Atkinson County came to
the Heron's field ranked
number five in state class B
football. They were greet
ed by a tough defense and
a sparkling offense that
handed them a 28-0 set
back. The Brantley County
Herons were great in this
moment of triumph. Larry
Lane was one of the major
factors in the Heron victory
as he ran a touchdown, pass -
ed for a touchdown, and
made two interceptions.
The entire team did a tr
emendous job in their de
feat of a good football
team.
The first quarter saw the
two struggle on an even
basis. Both were unable to
generate an effective of
fensive as the defensive
unit of each team managed
to prevfent any offensive
drives. In the second qu
arter the Herons gained the
momentum through an in
terception of a Rebel pass
by Larry Lane. Rayford
Blue made a long run to set
up the first score. With
7:04 remaining on the clock
in the second quarter, Paul
Langford handed off to
Robert Thomas who plowed
three yards into the enzone
to put the Herons out front
6-0. The PAT was unsu
ccessful and the first half
ended with this score.
In the third quarter the
Herons charged cownfield
and from 12 yards out Paul
Langford ran a beautifully
executed Quarterback op
tion and raced into the end -
zone for the Heron's second
touchdown. Paul then com -
pie ted a pass to John
Middleton for the PAT and
raised the score to 14-0. In
the final quarter the Heron
offense continued to move.
With 9:46 remaining in the
game Larry Lane tossed a 25
yard pass to Archie Lee
White in the endzone to
make the score 20-0 and
the PAT was blocked. The
Heron defense got the ball
back for the offense and
Larry Lane made a 22 yard
touchdown run with only
6:34 remaining in the
game. Paul Langford then

for the PAT and completed
the score at 28-0. The cl
losing seconds of the game
saw the Rebel scoring threat
thwarted by an interception
by Archie Lee White in-the
Rebel endzone for a touch
back. The Herons then ran
out the clock.
Each player made outst
anding individual contri
butions to make this team
victory possible. On de

tackles, while Philip Pur

give the team good field,
position. Larry Lane had
