Brantley County joined the US
Army in August, according to
Sergeant Allison Lee of the US
Army Recultlng Station In
Waycross.
Those who enlisted were,
Sandra Stewart, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. George F.
Stewart of Nahunta, Henry H.
Strickland Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry H. Strickland of
Hortense, Clifford C. Johns,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin R.
Johns of Nahunta, Larry L.
Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leo H. Johnson of Hoboken,
Gilbert Lee husband of Shirley
Drawdy Lee of Nahunta,
Thomas G. Lewis, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Hugh D. Lewis of
Nahunta and Freddie Eugene
Newman, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Emery L. Newman of Hobo
ken.
Their area of choice for en
listment are as follows: Pvt.
Stewart enlisted for basic mil
itaryjournalist, she will study,
journalism, including photo
journalism, research and oral
visual communications radio
and television broadcasting.
Pvt. Johnson and Strickland
enlisted tor the Army Ranger
Training Option, they will be
trained in combat tactical
realism, patrolling and ex
posure to various terrain and
climatic environments. They
will also undergo airborn tr
aining. Pvt. Newman enlisted
for the 16 months guaranteed
state side assignment, he will
be assigned to Fort Benning,
Georgia. Pvt. Lewis also en
listed for the 16 months en
listment option and airborn
training. He will be stationed
at Fort Brag, N. C. Pvt. Lee
enlisted for microwave sys
tems operation and maintence
course. Pvt. Johns enlisted
for the artillery enlistment
option.
Sgt. Lee said all were three
year enlistment options and
were guaranteed before the
enlistment.
