BRANTLEY HERONS NIP
BLACKSHEAR 14-12
After a heavy rain the Her
ons spotted the Blackshear
Tigers a 6-0 in the first quart
er and a 12-8 lead in the
third quarter before edging the
1970 Region Champions in a
14-12 decision. Paul Lang
ford put on a sparkling display
in guilding the team victory.
Paul passed for two touch-
downs, ran a PAT, made one
interception, four tackles,
and added 16 yards rushing.
It took an entire team effort
to stop the strong Blackshear
Tigers.
Blackshear took the opening
kickoff and proceeded to
make a 65 yard march into
the endzone. Jerry Broome
carried the ball over from
three yards out to give the
Tigers a 6-0 lead. Rayford
Blue, Larry Lane, and Robert
Thomas combined in the
second quarter to move the
ball to the Tiger one yard
line. Paul Langford then rif
led a pass to Davy Able for
the score and Paul ran the PAT
to put the Herons in front 8-6.

After taking the opening

to punt. A short punt put the
Tigers in good field position
and they proceeded to take
advantage of it. The Tigers

ball over to give the Tigers a

On the subject of livestock

standing in the endzone and
the score was 14-12. Black
shear made a strong bid to
score in the fading minutes,
but the Heron defense stopped
them on a fourth down play
and the Herons ran.
This victory gives Brantley
County an overall 3-0 record
and a 2-o Region record. Re-
maining region games are

night, Clinch County, and
Charlton County. Coach

to win with a team effort,

some injuries and train some
others to take the place of
those injured."

Re-election As
Nahunta Mayor
TO THE CITIZENS
OF NAHUNTA
This is to announce my can
didacy for Mayor to succeed
myself for the last time as
any officer for the City, I
truly appreciate your support
in the past and humbly solicit
your vote and influnce in the
election on October 6 next.
I have tried to serve the
City and its citizens in a bus
iness like manner and the
doors of City Hall has been
open to those with complaints
and those interested in the
affairs of the City. Every
meeting, regular and called
has been attended by myself
and will be in the future,
barring unforseen events.
On August 6, 1970, Dan

commended, as an engineer
ing firm, after a conference
■with Mr. Dabney it was de
cided by the City Council to
employe them to do our work
for a sewer system. On Jan
uary 6, this year Mr. Dabney
returned with specifications
and blue prints for the sewer
system, after going over these
plans and after careful study
it was decided that there sh
ould be some changes made
to cut the cost of same, the
correctionstobemade was to
use two oxidization ponds in
stead of one. Some three or
four weeks later our applic

would take some time for our
application to go through ro

awaiting their instructions.
About three years past I went
to the Jesup branch of the
State Highway Department,
for the purpose of getting pr
isoners to clean the state dit
ches in the City of Nahunta,
I was told by this offical that
they could not put the prison
ers in water and futhermore
they did not have easements
on the ditches, I found this
to be untrue as the public
recordsinthe Clerks office of
Brantley reveals that the State
of Georgia has a bombination
of deeds and easements for J.
B. Lewis, Jim Brett, J.W.
Schneider, J.W. Brooker and
W.H. Howard.
The prisoners from the Ware
Co. prison branch will do the
work assigned to by Mr. Otis
Morgan, but the prisoners from
Jesup prison branch refused to
get in the water near the Ira
Francis Brown home to clean
the ditch, this refusal happen
ed on September 13, 1971. I
am at present trying to contact
the person in charge of assing
ing prisoners for work details.
Every year here-to-fore we
have received our state grant
of $7321.90 on July 15, but
during the January session of
the Legislature 1971 some one
slipped a clause in the bill to
give us our grant in four pay
ments and let the payments
come due on the last day of
the quarter, which means we
won't get our grant money
until September 30th, 1971.
I was told by our representat
ive, Dr. Carl Drury, that he
believed we would get all the
grant money in the near fut
ure, appearantly he had ref
erence to the extra session
coming up the latter part of
Sept. If this fails we have to
wait until tax gathering time
to get on ei/en-keel.
Furthermore the Cities was
promised by the Governor, an
additional grant of fourteen
million dollars of which our
pro-rata share would have
been 55951.97, this grant fell
by the wayside as Sloppy
Floyd, who is chariman of the
appropriations committe and
his coll eagues cut this grant
from the Governors budget.
An effort will be made at the
next legislative session to have
this grant approve.
I have just recently signed a
requisition G application from
the law enforcement are of
Shalsh Pine Area Planning &
Development Comm, for one
1972 Police car, one Base St
ation, one car radio, one
half the salary of one Police

one Walkie-Talkie. Total
cost $9188.00 Federal pays
$6891.00 leaving a balance
to be paid by the City of Na

will get the above grant about

elected as the City Council
to carry on the business of the

If re-elected I promise to do

With these remarks I humbly
ask your support and influence.
