The Brantley County Rescue
Unit that was recently form
ed, has announced itself ready
for operations.

25, at 8:30 p. m., Sidney
Hulett, assistant chief, re
quested information on the a
vailabilityidf emergency ser
vice be made known to the
public at large.

PASTOR'S PEN
BE OF GOOD CHEER
Matthew 9:2; Mark 6;50; John 16:33
Man's extremity is God's opportunity.
To souls in need, Jesus repeatedly said,
"Be of good cheer. " Jesus could say," Be
of good cheer," for He always had a cure
for every trouble, whether it be sin,
disease, fear, or weakness. We find three
of these "good cheers" spoken by Jesus in
the gospels:
1. The good cheer of pardon. "And, be
hold, theybroughttohim a man sick of the
palsy, lying on a bed; and Jesus seeing
their faith said unto the sick of palsy; Son,
be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee"
(Matt. 9:2).
God does no and cannot ignore sin; He
forgive sin. To forgive or pardon literally
means to send away. God sends our sins
away, but only on the basis of Christ's
blood. The sinner receives forgiveness
when he repents and believes, which is the
two-fold meaning of confession (I John 1:9).
The greatest encouragement Jesus ever
speaks to one is this, "Be of good cheer.
Take courage. Your sins are sent away
because of your repentance and faith. ""Who
is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth in
iquity, andpassethby the transgression? "
(Mic. 7:18).
2. The good cheer of His personal pre
sence. "And immediately he talked with
them and saith unto them, Be of good
cheer; it is I; be not afraid" (Mark 6:50).
Jesus spoke this "cheer" to His disciples
as they faced destruction. The conscious
ness of Jesus' presence always brings st
rength and encourage. To know He is with
us is to have inner power, courage and
faith to conquer in life. The Psalmist said
he absolutely feared no evil, not even death.
Why? "For thou art with me" (Ps. 23;4).
3. The good cheer of His overcoming
power. "In the world ye shall have tribu
lation; but be of good cheer; I have over
come the world" (John 16;33). Jesus pro
mises positive trouble for His disciples.
Nevertheless, he counsels, "Be of good
cheer. " "I have won the battle over every
enemy. You can win, too, if you, like I
appropriate God's power in your lives. "
You can conquer is the title of a fairly re
centreligiousbook. The title is mislead -
ing. You alone cannot conquer but God
and you can more that conquer. "We are
more than conquerors through him that
loved us" (Rom. 8; 37). Aman linked to
God can no more be defeated than God
Himself.

First, let me say that I have
served you on the council for

In regards to all the pro

BRANTLEY COUNTY HERONS IN ACTION AGAINST THE PATTERSON EAGLES
BCHS STOPS PATTERSON 6— 0
Brantley County extended
their winning streak to four
games with a 6-0 victory over
region foe, Patterson. The
Herons now stand 3-0 in Reg
ion 2-B competition. The
efforts of a strong defensive
unit paid off as they played
the first half stopping Patterson
from scoring. This defensive
effort only gave up three first
downs and a total of 33 yards
in the entire game. Curtis
Rainge, Marshall Edgy, and
Davy Able sparkled in the de
fensive effort.
The first half opened on a
vooming kick that was return

was unable to move against
the strong Heron defense and
was forced to punt. The punt
placed the Herons dee pin their

the first half. The offensive
unit was unable to generate
any kind of a drive as they had
no backyard to play in and a
mistake could have been very
costly. The offense did begin
to move as the first half came
to an end but the score stood
0-0 when the band put on a
half time performance.
The Herons took the opening
kick of the second half and re
turned the ball 19 yards to the
Herons 39 yard line. Finally
the offense found themselves
ingood field position and they
proceeded to make a 61 yard
drive. Robert Thomas, Larry
