DRESSING FOR DAYTIME
WITH CASUAL CLOTHES-
FALL »71
Casual dressing for Fall is
toothsome: worn multi-lay
ered like a wedding cake,
but with the simplicity of a
ginger snap. For example,
cardigan coat over belted sk
irt and sweater over shirt over
body stocking. Ladies may
coordinate to their heart’s
content, choosing from sm
ashing separates such as pl-
eated and gored skirts
short, knee-length and long
pants.. .shirts and turtleneck
jerseys... .smock-tops.. .sh
rink sweaters.. .vest.. .blaz-
ers and cropped jackets....
body stocking, knee-high and
over-the-knee hosiery. Top
coats come long and skinny,
in husky shearling styles, as
short coats over pants or skirts.
Fake furs makes for fun.
Soft... sporty... classic....
layered- key fashioned
words for Fall. Classics in
clude the blazer, shirtwaist
and wrap coats. Camel’s hair
and tweeds are favorite fab
rics. Easy suits in soft wool
ens, knits and suede come
with cropped, cardigan and
blazer jackets. Blazers also
team with other separates for
mixingormatching. Return-
ingto important—the dress,
usuallybelted and with a full
erskirt. Coats feature wrapp
ed styles, long blazers, new
short coats. For "chubbies"
are fun, but fur generally used
for trim or the great look of
"leather-out, fur-in" coats.
Lengths are at several levels
but primarily just below knee
for dresses, slightly longer for
most coats. Pantsuits play up
tailored types, ."warm pants"
suits.. .layered ensembles.

County Agent
Nahunta — Free vaccination
of horses for Venezuelan Equine
Encephalomyelitis (VEE) will
end Oct. 2, according to State
and Federal Regulatory offi
cials.
Approximately 100,000 horses
have been vaccinated in Geor
gia under this emergency pro
gram. Horse owners who have
not had their horses vaccinated
may obtain this service without
charge until the deadline date
by contacting their local veter
narian or county extension
agent, according to Charles N.
Dobbins of the Extension Ser.
When VEE first invaded Tex
as there was no commercial
vaccine available. The Depart
ment of Defense provided vac
cine that had been stock piled
for human use to counter the
threat in animals.
SINCE THIS time the com
mercial production of the vac
cine has been undertaken and
is available to veterinarians and
horse owners.
After Oct. 2, horse owners
may have their animals protect
ed by contacting their veteri
narian who will utilize the com
mercial vaccine. Horse owners
will be charged for the vaccine
and services rendered.
It is still not legal to move
horses from one location to an
other unless the animal has
been vaccinated for VEE at
least 14 days. Persons guilty
of violating the quarantine are
subject to prosecution.
Unlike the eastern and west
ern forms of sleeping sickness
which normally occur in Geor
gia, the Venezuelan form may
be transmitted directly from in
fected horses to humans. There
fore, even if there was no quar
antine on the movement of
horses, it is still important that
as many horses be protected
from this disease as possible.
Horse owners not only have
an obligation to their horses
and members of their own fam
ily, but to the other people in
their immediate community, re
ports Dobbins.
Venezuelan Equine Encepha
lomyelitis in Texas may seem
far away, but with modern
transportation, infected mosqui
toes may hitch a ride in an
automobile, truck or bus and
be in Georgia in a day. Then
with one unprotected horse in
the right location, this disease
could start in Georgia.
The Extension Service veter
inarian reminds Georgia horse
owners they may have their
animals vaccinated free of
charge until Oct. 2 by contacting
their county extension agent or
their local veterinarian.
LITTLE BIG SPENDERS
Over a million and a quarter
teenagers are learning how to
spend money wisely in the 4-H
consumer education program.
The program is warranted, for
today’s youth spend more than
ever before. In 1970
youngsters from 9 to 19 spent
nearly s2l billion. They
bought 50% of soft drinks
consumed, 90% of single
phonograph records, 44% of all
cameras, 27% of the cosmetics
and 9% of new cars.
4-H 30 MILLION STRONG
There is a not-so-exclusive
club whose members include
some of the most talented
dedicated people in America
today. They are 4-H alumni,
who in the more than 50 years
since 4-H began, have grown to
number 30 million names.

St. Simons Island plays host to the Golden Isles Art Festival,
displaying the work of artists from throughout the southeast,
October 2 and 3. (PRN)
TOUR
GEORGIA
ST. SIMONS (PRN) -
Anyone who has ever been
fortunate enough to visit
Georgia’s Golden Isles during
the bright blue days of
October needs little incentive
to return. On the contrary, it’s
difficult to stay away.
Now there’s an extra lure to
the golden sand and sun of
Georgia’s romantic coast. The
St. Simons art colony, a
sizeable one in itself, is hosting
the Golden Isles Arts Festival,
October 2 and 3. From 10
a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and
Sunday, visitors may view and
purchase fine examples of art
assembled from throughout
the southeast.
The second annual Festival,
sponsored by the Glynn Art
Association, will offer in
addition an extensive program
of music, drama, and
demonstrations of arts and
crafts. There is no admission
charge.
The Festival will again be
staged informally in Neptune
Park, in the village overlooking
the ocean. Last year’s opening
show drew 5,000 art lovers to
enjoy the works of more than
200 artists and craftsmen from
eight states.
And after art shopping, the
visitor will want to explore the
rich past of the storied,
sun-dappled island. Old
Frederica Road, lined with
ancient moss-draped oaks,
leads to Fort Frederica

National Monument and
historic Christ Church.
Fort Frederica, a tabby
structure built in 1736 by
General James Oglethorpe,
served as military headquarters
for the defense of British
colonies against the Spaniards
in Florida. Christ Church was
founded in the same year by
John and Charles Wesley. In
1820 a church was built on
the site of the present
building, on lands that were
once garden lots of the Old
Town of Frederica.
Nearby is the site of the
Battle of Bloody Marsh, one
of the most decisive
engagements in America’s
history. Here Oglethorpe’s
a small band, greatly
outnumbered, defeated
invading Spanish forces and
provided a turning point in the
contest between Spain and
England for this section of the
country.
And after the history
lessons, the outdoor buff
should linger long enough to
enjoy recreation in the
splendid coastal climate. St.
Simons and her sister islands,
Jekyil and Sea Island, offer
golf, tennis, riding and cycling,
all types of water sports.
The Department of
Industry and Trade, Tourist
Division, says a golden
weekend awaits you in
Georgia’s Golden Isles.
