" ADORN THE DOCTRINE "
TITUS 2:10
Most of us like to do something outstand
ing in life. It is good to look back at acco
mplishments, and know that you have done
something worthwhile. Therefore, it is well
to consider what is the most important
things and decide to do them in the order
of their importance. Perhaps the most im
portant accomplishment in life is to adorn
the " Doctrine of God " in all things. How
mayl adorn the doctrine (teaching) of God?
There are many ways, of course, but I will
offer four for your consideration.
I. Believe that the Bible is the word of God.
Seek to know well enough to enable you to
live by it.. Athiests deny it; Liberals choose
tobelieve parts of it, and Christians tail to
live by it. Come to know it and live by it.
For it is God's word.
11. Believe that Jesus Christ is God in hu
man form. He is the missing link between
God and man. To adorn the doctrine, make
Jesus Lord of your life. There is no use
talking about it unless we are willing to do
it. He is always Jesus Christ, God's Son.
But, he can only be Lord of your life when
you let Him be.
111, Believe the doctrine that Jesus is the
Head of the church. As the head of His ch
urch, he is calling men and women to be
saints (Rom. ch. I), "present your bodies
a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto
God... "If the church is to succeed, it must
have certain kinds of people (I) Good stew
ards -of time, talents, money and office.
(2) Serious minded, walking worthy of their
vocation. (3) People involved in the Christ
ian witnes s under the great commission. (4)
People obedient to the word of God.
IV. Believe the doctrine that Jesus is co
„ ming again. Watch how you live and be re
ady, "for you know not the hour when the Son
of Man cometh. " In John 14; 3 Jesus said,
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I
will come again, and receive you unto my
self; that where I am, there you may be al
so. "
. To adorn the doctrine is to be obedient to
to Christ, It is also to live a beautiful life,
a life worthwhile, a life that really counts.

Clemency For Calley
WASHINGTON, D.C.
(PRN) — U.S. Senator David
H. Gambrell today called on
President Nixon to “give
immediate attention to
appropriate executive

William Calley.”
In a telegram to the Chief
Executive, the Georgia
Senator said, "Surely
Lieutenant Calley is not solely
responsible for the MyLai
incident but he alone stands
convicted, and with a severe
sentence, for this tragic
occurrence. These
circumstances present a clear
case of injustice to Lieutenant
Calley which deserves
correction.” Gambrell said

BRANTLEY COUNTY IS SOLVENT
The auditing firm employed by the Brantley County Board
of Commissioners to audit the books and records of the county
has completed their work and presented the audit. The audit
for the year 1971 was presented to the commission by Mr.
Meeks of the Quinney, Meeks, Roberts, Spicer and Quinney
Auditing Firm. Mr. Meeks presented the audit at the regular
meeting of the Board of Commissioners on April 4.
Mr. Meeks explained that the auditing firm wished to thank
all county officials contacted during the course of the audit
for their complete cooperation. Meeks said the books and
records in the offices of Tax Commissioner, Ordinary, Clerk
of Superior Court and Chairman of the County Commissioners
were found to be in excellent condition.
Mr. Meeks reported that the books and records in the
Office of the Sheriff were inadequate. ”We feel that consideration
should be given to improving this situation” he added. Meeks
discussed at length with the Board of Commissioners the
Commissioner Stewart ask Mr. Meeks to explain the mean
ing of ’’surplus” and to explain in detail the amount of income
the county had in 1971. He also ask Mr. Meeks to explain the
costs the county had the same year. Stewart stated the reason
for the questions was for the benefit of a county commissioner
that had been paying ’’lip-service ” about the county to a $lO7,
000. surplus. Meeks explained surplus and said that there was
a surplus of funds in 1971 of $22,617.91 . He said the surplus
was excess of income over expendatures for the year. Stewart
ask if the 22 thousand surplus might be excessive, considering
the total income of $363,344.10. Mr. Meeks stated” absolutely”
not, the 22 thousand figure might well have been short rather
than over”.
Stewart said that Commissioner Strickland has stated to the

ION IN ORDER TO SECURE BRANTLEY COUNTY WITH HOBOKEN AS THE COUNTY SITE.
Ifyou have made a close study of the county or will make a close observation of the territory
occupied by the new county, you will find that the above map, which was used before the
legislature to create the new county with Hoboken as the county site, is altogether misleading.
This map shows Hoboken to be almost in the center of the county. Nahunta is shown as being
situated in the extreme eastern part of the county, when in fact, Nahunta, geographically
speaking, is directly in the center of the county, as will be shown clearly by a map which is
to be published in the near future. 50 Years Ago Page 2- Col 1&2

Commission Chairman Stewart reminded the Board that the past
Grand Jury recommended hiring a Clerk-Dispatcher to be pre

In other matters of the audit, Meeks stated that for the year
1971, the county had assets totaling $526,276.10 . These assets
consisted of cash on hand, cash in the bank, advalorem taxes
receivable, prepaid insurance, due from the State of Georgia
for motor fuel tax and highway contracts and due from county

of real estate, equipment, Sheriff’s Department equipment,

On the other side of the ledger, Meeks told the Commission
that liabilities amounted to $50,555.79 and consisted of acc

public that the County Commission is sitting on $107,000 of
taxpayers funds and levying more taxes. ” Strickland is making
noise and fooling very few people ” Stewart said.
The Board of Commissioners for the past three years have
set the same tax mills for the operation of the county govern

The Board of Education has Increased school mills each
year since the current Board of Commissioners went into
office. Boards of County Commissioners are obligated by law
